California to play football games at AT&T Park in 2011

The California Golden Bears have announced that they will play their 2011 home football games at AT&T Park in San Francisco while Memorial Stadium is renovated.

AT&T Park, which opened in 2000, is home to the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball. The stadium also hosts the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl (formerly the Emerald Bowl).

Cal’s Memorial Stadium in Berkeley opened in 1923 and seats 71,799. Preliminary construction on the stadium will begin in June.

From Wikipedia:

On January 19, 2010 the UC Board of Regents approved the retrofit and renovation of California Memorial Stadium. The $321 million project will begin in June 2010 and is expected to be completed in time for the 2012 season. The project will renovate the seismically vulnerable west side of the stadium and add amenities such as club levels, restrooms, and a new press box. Renovation of the east side of the stadium will be done at a later time in phase III.

Cal’s 2011 football schedule is not complete yet. But the Bears will face Pac-10 foes Arizona, Oregon State, USC and Washington State at AT&T Park. Two non-conference games should be added at a later date.
