Report: Tennessee to Open 2011 Season vs. Montana Grizzlies

By Kevin Kelley -

TennesseeThe Tennessee Volunteers will open the 2011 football season at home against the Montana Grizzlies, the Billings Gazette is reporting.

The Volunteers will host the Grizzlies at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville on September 3, 2011. Tennessee was supposed to host North Texas on that date, but the game has been postponed. From the Times Free Press:

UT men’s athletic director Mike Hamilton said the Volunteers had to replace North Texas because the Mean Green wanted to play their 2011 opener in their new stadium. Hamilton said the Vols will host North Texas “in a future year that we have had trouble filling,” but he didn’t give a specific date.

This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools. Montana is a member of the Big Sky Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision.

Other non-conference games for Tennessee in 2011 include Cincinnati (09/10), at North Carolina (09/24) and Middle Tennessee (11/05).
