BYU agrees to a six-year football contract with Notre Dame

The BYU Cougars have agreed to a 6-year football contract with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, ESPN has announced. Dates of the games and other details have not been finalized yet.

BYU and Notre Dame will meet six times through the 2020 season. Notre Dame leads the overall series against BYU 4-2. The two schools last played in 2005, a 49-23 win for the Fighting Irish in South Bend.

The agreement coincides with an 8-year deal with ESPN to broadcast BYU home games. BYU is also negotiating with the Utah Utes to continue their long-standing rivalry.

BYU will become an independent football school in 2011, therefore they are trying to fill the holes in their future schedules. They have already scheduled future games in 2011 and 2012 with five WAC schools.
