By Kevin Kelley -

The BYU Cougars and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have set the dates for their 2012 and 2013 football games, BYU has announced.

The Fighting Irish will host the Cougars at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend in both years. The 2012 game will be played on October 20 while the 2013 game will be played on November 16.

BYU and Notre Dame will also play a 4-game, home-and-home series between 2014 and 2020. Exact dates for those games will be announced later.

The Fighting Irish own a 4-2 record all-time against the Cougars. The two schools haven’t played each other since 2005.

Another good but not great team for the Irish to get a average win over average team!

Face it. The Irish NEED to be playing teams that dwell at the BOTTOM of the Top 25 list more often. They are not the team they used to be and need to get consistent 9+ win seasons to get to where they were.

Notre Dame should also try to get some games with some more of the rising stars (similar to what they did with Utah) and play Boise and TCU. A game where Notre Dame is playing on the Blue field would do nothing but HELP Notre Dame. If they loose, blame it on the nasty smurf turf. If they win, they beat the team with the best home record in the nation.

When trying to capture a new generation, you have to do things that are familiar to that generation. The fighting Irish will never return to glory if they don’t keep up with what’s happening today. When you have a bucks to play with, use it.

The Irish would get stomped by Boise St. (at least the BSU team from the last four years). The Irish vs. BYU…well, that’s a good matchup. I’m looking forward to it.
