Houston set 2011 non-conference football schedule

By Kevin Kelley -

The Houston Cougars have set their 2011 non-conference football schedule which features the season-opener at home against UCLA.

Houston hosts UCLA at Robertson Stadium on September 3. This is the return game of the home-and-home series that began at UCLA in 2010. The Bruins won that game 31-13 and now lead the overall series between the two schools 3-2.

On September 10, the Cougars travel to face the North Texas Mean Green of the Sun Belt Conference. In their last meeting in 1998, Houston won 31-9 in Denton.

Houston then travels to Ruston to face Louisiana Tech for the first time since 1995. The Cougars lead the series against the Bulldogs 3-2.

The final non-conference game for Houston is at home on September 24 against the Georgia State Panthers. The Panthers will be in only their second season of football and are currently playing as an FCS independent.

Solid schedule…..UCLA will be a bit more rugged and getting two fellow mid-majors on the road will be real test. Georgia State is a cupcake but UH already is playing a worthy schedule. No team with so high expectations was hurt so badly by injuries….hope the Cougars can bounce back in 11….
