Hawaii talking to Notre Dame, Wisconsin for Home-and-home Football Series

By Kevin Kelley -

The Hawaii Warriors are talking to both Notre Dame and Wisconsin about scheduling a future home-and-home football series, the Honolulu Star Advertiser has reported.

UH Athletic Director Jim Donovan told the paper that they are looking “out toward 2017, ’18 … or beyond” for games against both Notre Dame and Wisconsin.

The Warriors are 0-3 all-time against the Fighting Irish. The two schools last met in the 2008 Hawaii Bowl, a 49-21 win for Notre Dame. Two previous meetings were in 1991 and 1997, both in Honolulu.

Hawaii and Wisconsin have met six times overall, but only once in Madison. The Badgers lead the series 5-1 and trounced the Warriors 51-10 in their last meeting in 2009.

The Warriors, who join the Mountain West Conference in 2012, have several openings on their future football schedules. The exact number depends on how many conference games the MWC decides to play after 2013. There will be eight conference games in 2012 and 2013, and depending on a vote, there could be nine beginning in 2014.

I think it is a good idea. Wisconsin has a good following and loves to play in Hawaii.
