West Virginia to host James Madison at FedEx Field in 2012

By Kevin Kelley -

West VirginiaJames MadisonThe West Virginia Mountaineers are close to finalizing an agreement to host the James Madison Dukes at FedEx Field on September 15, 2012, DailyMail.com has reported.

This will be the second meeting between the two schools. West Virginia beat James Madison 45-10 in 2004. The Dukes went on to win the 1-AA National Championship that year.

James Madison will receive $350,000 for the game and can earn another $150,000 in “an attendance incentive.” For every ticket sold beyond 42,500 up to 57,500, the Dukes would earn $10 per ticket. The Mountaineers will be the home team and will earn more than $2 million.

The addition of James Madison completes West Virginia’s 2012 non-conference football schedule. The Mountaineers also host Marshall on September 1, travel to Florida State on September 8 and play at Maryland (date TBA).

Last week, it was announced that Maryland and West Virginia will meet at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore in 2013. The Mountaineers will also play the BYU Cougars at FedEx Field in 2016.

Go DUUUUKES!!! With all of the JMU alumni in the area, I would not be surprised to see JMU sell out all of their tickets. I find it interesting that JMU has been allotted up to 57,500 tickets to a 92,000 seat stadium, and yet it’s an “away” game. Dude, if we took over that stadium and pulled another VT-type upset, they’ll be kicking themselves for sure.

Maybe we don’t have a team that can produce NFL superstars like Pacman Jones, but we still compete at our level given the limited number of FCS scholarships. You guys taking couches up to FedEx for the occassion?

JMU fans shouldn’t get too confident. Frank Beamer doesn’t know what to do with the talent in VT. I doubt Dana would let the team suffer a crappy performance like the Hokies suffered in 2010.
