BYU and Houston Schedule 2013-14 Home-and-home Football Series

By Kevin Kelley -

The BYU Cougars have scheduled a 2013-14 home-and-home football series with the Houston Cougars, BYU Director of Athletics Tom Holmoe announced today.

BYU will travel to face Houston at Robertson Stadium on October 19, 2013. The BYU Cougars will then host the Houston Cougars at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo on September 27, 2014. The 2013 game will be the first ever between the two schools.

“We’re excited to play this series with Houston,” said Holmoe. “It allows both schools to have unique travel experiences and play very good competition. Our football team has never played in Houston, so I’m excited that BYU fans in that part of the country will have an opportunity to see our team play in person.”

BYU continues to add opponents to its future football schedules. In 2013, BYU hosts Boise State, Georgia Tech, Texas and Utah and travels to Hawaii, Houston, Notre Dame and Utah State.

In 2014, BYU hosts Houston and Southern Miss and plays at Boise State, Georgia Tech, Texas, UCF and Utah. They also play Hawaii with the site to be determined.

The addition of BYU gives the Houston Cougars three non-conference games in both 2013 and 2014. Houston also hosts Louisiana Tech and UTSA in 2013 and then travels to those schools in 2014.

Question is will both sets of Cougars be in the Big 12 when this series is played or one or both pending members?

@ Anon

Looking more and more like BYU to Big 12 may happen. Looks like Texas A&M is dead set on leaving the Big 12.

Some better games are starting to show up here for BYU. I’m glad the WAC teams agreed to play us, but it’s much nicer seeing C-USA teams that go to bowl games instead of WAC teams that haven’t seen a bowl for a long time.

Okay, this is good. I like Houston on our schedule. Between the 2013 and 2014 BYU home schedules, the 2014 needed more help, so the away-home selection was right. 2013 is looking great at home! Hopefully 2014 will shape up nicely, too.

I am a BYU season ticket holder. I’m really worried about the 2012 home series. We really, really need to announce a good home game in that final open spot for 2012. I am feeling very tempted to forego that season ticket purchase next year.

The scheduling is so lame this year (2011) that in order to get tickets to the most popular home game vs Utah, one must purchase an equal number of tickets to two other home games (chosen from Idaho, Idaho State, New Mexico State and San Jose State) as well. Ouch! That’s a sure sign that scheduling was bad.

True the 2011 home schedule will be tough, but it was just a reflection of the growing pains. I love seeing how each successive announcement brings increasingly exciting teams to BYU’s schedule. Scheduling Houston is a so-so game for me, but we have been getting some great teams on our schedule.

I think that a BYU-Navy or a BYU-Army game would be pretty sweet as well.

Also, I hope the Cougs can schedule a couple more games down here in Florida. I want to go the UCF game when BYU comes down–hopefully they can make another trip down here somewhere soon!

…and by ‘tough’ in the first paragraph of my last post, I meant tough on the fans, as in not very exciting…not tough as in difficult. I’m sure that’s what you all figured…

An interesting dilema for the mormons coming to texas as their messiah jeffs is in a texas jail spreading the mormon gospel of polygamy and insest.

You obviously no nothing about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jeff isn’t a member of the Church and has never been. he is the leader of the FUNDAMENTALIST Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Research your info before making such a blatant and blasphemous statement. If you did any type of accurate research, you would know The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints, which is commonly called the Mormon Church, hasn’t practiced Polygamy since the 1800’s, and you certainly shouldn’t judge something you don’t understand.

Again pa shows his ignorance about what Mormons are. Another bullseye for sure. Bigdan11 said enough.

@Florida Student Doc, that “so-so” game at the Rob is going to whip you, UH coogs fans have been DYING to get a decent team on our schedule since 2009. 2013 is gunna be nasty for yall if you think you can walk in and take a ‘so-so’ team, we’re no central florida thats for sure. UH is one of the winningest schools at our home stadium and against ranked opponents in the last few years.

I didn’t mean any disrespect to Houston at all by saying it was a so-so game. Just that, for me, I was neutral about it. Should be a good game. Houston has a good program that has grown a lot in their exposure these last few years. Nothing but respect for Houston.

Tom Holmoe is wrong, BYU has played in Houston – upset of Texas A&M in 1979 was at Rice Stadium.
