East Carolina extends Home-and-home Football Series with North Carolina

North CarolinaEast CarolinaThe East Carolina Pirates have extended their home-and-home football series with the North Carolina Tar Heels, ECU announced Thursday.

East Carolina will travel to face North Carolina at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill on September 22, 2012. On September 28, 2013, the Pirates will host the Tar Heels at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in Greenville.

The two schools will square off this season on October 1 in Greenville. The series, which started in 1975, is led by the Tar Heels 10-2-1. North Carolina has won the last two games, both in Chapel Hill.

“It remains important for us to maintain ties to our regional rivals and continuing our football relationship with North Carolina certainly is in line with that,” East Carolina Director of Athletics Terry Holland said. “The anticipation and excitement make this a tough ticket in both stadiums and creates interest throughout the region.”
