Pitt, UCF cancel 2012 football game; Knights may face Ohio State

By Kevin Kelley -

The Pittsburgh Panthers and the UCF Knights have cancelled their 2012 football game, The Orlando Sentinel has reported.

UCF was scheduled to travel to Pittsburgh on September 8, 2012. Due to realignment, the Panthers asked to cancel the agreement and the Knights agreed.

The Orlando Sentinel also reports that UCF may have found a replacement game against the Ohio State Buckeyes. In order for that to happen, Ohio State would have to cancel one of their four non-conference games. If the game is played on the same date (Sept. 8), Cincinnati would be removed from the Buckeyes schedule.

UCF opens the 2012 season at Akron (Aug. 30) and hosts Florida International and Kansas State (dates to be announced).

All four of Ohio State’s 2012 non-conference games are at home: Miami, OH (Sept. 1); Cincinnati (Sept. 8); California (Sept. 15); UAB (Sept. 22).
