Pitt to open 2012 season at home against Youngstown State

Pittsburgh PanthersThe Pittsburgh Panthers will open the 2012 season at home against the Youngstown State Penguins, YSU announced today.

Pitt will host Youngstown State at Heinz Field on September 1, 2012. This will be the third meeting between the two schools. The Panthers beat the Penguins 41-0 in 2005 and 38-3 in 2009.

Other non-conference games for Pitt in 2012 include Virginia Tech (Sept. 15), at Buffalo (Oct. 6) and at Notre Dame (Nov. 3).

In Big East games, the Panthers are slated to host Louisville and Rutgers and travel to Cincinnati, Connecticut, Syracuse and USF.

Pittsburgh finished the 2011 season 6-6 overall and 4-3 in the Big East. They will face the SMU Mustangs in the BBVA Compass Bowl on Sat., Jan. 7, 2012.
