2012 ACC Football Schedule to be released soon

By Kevin Kelley -

ACCThe 2012 ACC football schedule will be released soon, possibly as early as Monday, after Georgia Tech completed their schedule this weekend.

Georgia Tech wanted to alter their schedule after agreeing to open the season at Virginia Tech on Labor Day (Mon, Sept. 3). Tech was previously slated to open the season against Southeastern Louisiana on Sept. 1 and then Middle Tennessee on Sept. 8.

Instead, Tech has reportedly canceled the SE Louisiana game and moved the Middle Tennessee game to later in the 2012 season. After agreeing to play Virginia Tech on Labor Day, Georgia Tech desired to play an FCS team on Sept. 8 since they would only have five days rest.

Evidently, Southeastern Louisiana wasn’t able to accommodate Georgia Tech and have since scheduled a season opener at Missouri on Sept. 1.

The FCS opponent that Georgia Tech has scheduled for Sept. 8 was not disclosed but should be known soon. The Yellow Jackets are also scheduled to host BYU on Oct. 27 and travel to Georgia on Nov. 24.

It was previously thought that Florida State was the only hindrance to finalizing the 2012 ACC football schedule. After West Virginia canceled their 2012 trip to Tallahassee, Florida State was left with a hole on their own schedule. The Seminoles have since scheduled a home game with Savannah State on Sept. 8 to fill the void left by the Mountaineers.

Update: The 2012 ACC football schedule will be released on Monday, Feb. 27 at 2:00 p.m. ET.
