BYU CougarsThe BYU Cougars have announced their 2012 football schedule, which features games against Boise State, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Oregon State and Utah.

BYU will open the 2012 season at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Sept. 1 against the Washington State Cougars, followed by a home contest against the Weber State Wildcats on Sept. 8.

The Cougars then hit the road for two straight games at in-state rival Utah on Sept. 15 and at Boise State on Sept. 22.

BYU then returns home for three consecutive games: Hawaii on Sept. 29, Utah State on Oct. 5 (Friday) and Oregon State on Oct. 13.

After that three-game home stand, two big road games loom for BYU. The Cougars travel to South Bend to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Oct. 20 and then head south to Atlanta to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets of the ACC.

After a bye on Nov. 3 and a home date with Idaho on Nov. 10, Brigham Young closes out the 2012 regular season with back-to-back road games at San Jose State on Nov. 17 and New Mexico State on Nov. 24.

Should the Cougars qualify for a bowl game in 2012, they will play in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. There they will likely face a team from the Mountain West.

Any good reason why BYU couldn’t buy out one or two of the November games, and pick up games against the Big East teams looking to fill West Virginia’s spot?

This was a good schedule – five games against the current BCS Top 25, including one (SJSU) in November as well as the #1 team.

As this was the short-notice schedule put together, 2013 forward should keep us entertained.
