By Kevin Kelley -

Big EastThe Big East officially announced their 2012 football schedules today. Conference play begins on Thursday, Sept. 6 when Cincinnati hosts Pittsburgh.

For the 2012 season, the Big East welcomes Temple as a new member. The Owls, who have competed in the MAC since 2007, were members of the Big East from 1991 through 2004.

West Virginia is no longer a part of the conference as they have departed to compete in the Big 12. TCU also left for the Big 12, but they never actually engaged in Big East play.

Good to see the possibility of Rutgers and Syracuse having to play twice was much ado about nothing.

Boise State and Nevada can play 13 games since they both play at Hawaii (The Hawaii Exemption). Hawaii can always play 13 games if they choose. The extra home game helps them offset travel costs to the mainland.

I don’t want to see another 3-way tie for conference champion. Have a feeling we may see that again in the Big East this season. None of these sides really stand out to me.
