The Akron Zips and the Iowa State Cyclones have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2018 and 2019, ISU announced today via Twitter.

Iowa State will host Akron at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames on Sept. 22, 2018. The final game of the series will have the Zips hosting the Cyclones at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field in Akron on Sept. 7, 2019.

The 2018 contest will be the first ever meeting between Akron and Iowa State. Akron is 0-1 against the Big 12 after a 67-0 loss to Kansas State in 1995. Iowa State is 23-4 overall against teams from the MAC.

Iowa State was previously scheduled to play the Navy Midshipmen on the same two dates in 2018 and 2019. It appears that Navy has canceled the series and the Cyclones have replaced them with Akron. Since Navy is joining the Big East in 2015, they have several games and series to cancel from 2015 forward.

In 2018, Iowa State is also slated to travel to in-state rival Iowa and host Northern Illinois. In 2019, the Cyclones are scheduled to host Iowa.

Iowa State is the first announced opponent for Akron for both the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

sometimes i wish BYU were a pushover so we could get more home and home games with BCS teams.

BYU fans need to realize that BYU is a medium good team. Not great, not bad, medium. Fan expectations are too high and after everything BYU has gotten recently it isn’t enough. The 2013 schedule is Texas, Utah State, Georgia Tech, Houston, Boise State, Notre Dame, Hawaii, and Washington State. That is the best schedule BYU has ever had and yet BYU fans are crying. Does that make sense?

p.s. I am also a BYU fan

fully aware we’re a medium team, that’s why we don’t get these HandH’s. If we were an easy win we could get them. But since we’re likely to win at least one of 2 games the mediocre BCS teams don’t want to schedule us as much.

BYU is going to keep have a tough time getting decent games after week 4 or 5. A lot of teams prefer to get their non-cons out of the way in September and play their conferences in a row the last 8 or 9 weeks.

Iowa State is a BSC school by conference affiliation only. Do you think Oklahoma would make the trip to Akron? How about USC or Michigan?
NO WAY

Oklahoma is making the trip to El Paso this year….UTEP is on par with a top MAC program…

Jinzo, I would say a C-USA program such as UTEP is on par with the Mt. West. Plus that is a recruiting trip to Texas for the Sooners. I do not think the Buffs will bring in many recruits from the Northeast. The MAC is more on par with the Sun Belt. Troy could win the MAC in any given year.

Michigan State is actually traveling to Central Michigan this year, and has WMU and EMU on future schedules.

I suspect that EMU will move the game to Ford Field in Detroit too accommodate the Spartan fans and their money.

Yeah, sorry about that too. Was just trying to provide a little scheduling humor and the picture just kind of fit, so I went with it.
