SEC to add Independence Bowl for 2012 and 2013 Seasons

AdvoCare V100 Independence BowlThe SEC is set to add the AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl as a tie-in for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The official announcement, which could come as early as today, would give the SEC a record 10 bowl tie-ins.

The SEC would replace the Mountain West, which opted to take a spot in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas. The MWC made that move after BYU signed agreements to play in the 2012 Poinsettia Bowl and the 2013 Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl.

The ACC holds the other tie-in to the Independence Bowl, so the two conferences will now square off in three post-season bowl games. The Chick-fil-A Bowl and the Music City Bowl also host ACC vs. SEC match-ups.

An SEC team first played in the Independence Bowl in 1983 (Ole Miss) and the conference previously had a tie-in from 1995-2009. In their 16 appearances in the game, the SEC is 13-3.

The 2012 AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl is set for Friday, Dec. 28 at 2 p.m. ET. ESPN will broadcast the game live from Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana.
