Note: Update follows original article.

The 2015 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game could feature the Auburn Tigers against the Virginia Cavaliers, according to Virginia’s 2012 season ticket holder package.

Under a listing for future non-conference opponents for the 2015 season, Virginia is listed as playing Auburn in Atlanta. The Chick-fil-A Bowl has not officially announced the match-up and has yet to respond to our request for comment.

Auburn leads the overall series against Virginia 2-1. Coincidentally, their last meeting was in the 2011 Chick-fil-A Bowl, which resulted in a 43-24 victory for the Tigers.

If the game is finalized, Virginia’s 2015 non-conference football schedule would be complete. The Tigers are currently scheduled to play at UCLA on Sept. 5 and host William & Mary on Sept. 12. The date of the UCLA game would likely have to be changed in order to accommodate the Chick-fil-A game.

Auburn is tentatively set to host Idaho on Sept. 19, 2015, but that game could be in jeopardy due to Idaho’s questionable FBS status.

The Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game is an annual college football event played the first week of the season at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. This years event features two games in two days. NC State will face Tennessee on Friday, Aug. 31 (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPNU) and then Auburn will take on Clemson on Saturday, Sept. 1 (7 p.m. ET, ESPN).

Listed below is the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game schedule through 2014:

  • 2012 – NC State vs. Tennessee (Friday, Aug. 31, 7:30 p.m. ET, ESPNU)
  • 2012 – Auburn vs. Clemson (Saturday, Sept. 1, 7 p.m. ET, ESPN)
  • 2013 – Alabama vs. Virginia Tech (Saturday, Aug. 31)
  • 2014 – Boise State vs. Ole Miss (Thursday, Aug. 28)
  • 2014 – Alabama vs. West Virginia (Saturday, Aug. 30)

Update (3:45 p.m. ET): Virginia has released a statement regarding the 2015 game against Auburn:

“We apologize for any confusion generated as a result of our season ticket brochure listing incorrect opponents in future years,” said Jon Oliver, executive associate athletics director. “With conference expansion in the ACC and conference realignment for some of our tentative opponents, we are still reviewing our schedule in future years but our future schedules are not final. With regard to a game against Auburn in future years, there is nothing in place that would have us playing this game in 2015. As we finalize our future non-conference schedules we will update our website.”

I just noticed that in 2014, they will play not one, but two of these “Kick Off” games.

    What a great cashgrab.
