Dates for the Kentucky-Louisville football series have been set through 2016, according to the contract obtained by the Courier-Journal.

Kentucky and Louisville signed a new six-year deal in January 2011, which made their Sept. 17, 2011 game the first game of the contract. Louisville won that game 24-17 in Lexington.

The second game of the contract was played last Sunday at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium and Louisville defeated Kentucky 32-14.

Listed below are the dates of the games through 2016:

  • Sept. 14, 2013 in Lexington
  • Aug. 30, 2014 in Louisville
  • Sept. 12, 2015 in Lexington
  • Sept. 3, 2016 in Louisville

Kentucky and Louisville first played football in 1912. After six straight wins in which the Cardinals were held scoreless, the series went on hiatus for 70 years.

When the series finally resumed in 1994, the two schools began battling for the Governor’s Cup Trophy. Louisville is 11-8 in Governor’s Cup games, but Kentucky leads the overall series 14-11.

This Saturday, Louisville hosts Missouri State (3:30 p.m. ET, WHAS/ESPN3) while Kentucky hosts Kent State (7:30 p.m. ET, CSS/CST/ESPN3).
