Louisville Cardinals complete 2013 Non-Conference Football Schedule

By Kevin Kelley -

Louisville CardinalsThe Louisville Cardinals have completed their 2013 non-conference football schedule, the Courier-Journal has reported.

Louisville will open the 2013 season with two consecutive games at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. The Ohio Bobcats will visit on Aug. 31 followed by the Eastern Kentucky Colonels, an FCS team, on Sept. 7. The Cardinals are 2-2 all-time against Ohio and 17-8-1 against Eastern Kentucky.

On Sept. 14, UL will head to Lexington to take on in-state rival Kentucky. The Wildcats lead the overall series 14-11, but the Cardinals have won two straight, including 32-14 at home to open the 2012 season.

The Cardinals final non-conference game of 2013 will be at home against Florida International on Sept. 21. The two schools have split the first two games of their four-game, home-and-home series. The final contest is slated for Sept. 20, 2014 at FIU.

With the Big East expanding in 2013 and moving to an 8-game conference football schedule, each school will play four non-conference contests. That is one less than in previous years.

Last week, Big East commissioner Mike Aresco said that the divisions for the conference could be completed by November. His preference is for an East-West format, which would place Louisville in the East division with Cincinnati, Connecticut, Rutgers, UCF, and USF. The West division would consist of Boise State, Memphis, San Diego State, SMU, and Temple.

The Big East will also play a conference championship game beginning next season and it will be hosted on campus by the team with the best record in conference play.

That divisional alignment seems a little off. I would say if he wanted a true East-West split, the west would have Boise, Houston, Louisville, Memphis, San Diego St an SMU. East would be Cincy, UConn, Rutgers, Temple, UCF and USF.
