The 2012-13 college football bowl season kicks off today with the Gildan New Mexico Bowl followed by the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

The Gildan New Mexico Bowl pits Arizona of the Pac-12 against Nevada of the Mountain West. The game, which is played at University Stadium in Albuquerque, kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Arizona (7-5, 4-5 Pac-12) is led by running back Ka’Deem Carey, who leads the nation in rushing yards per game with 146.42. Who is right behind him in second place? Stefphon Jefferson of the Nevada Wolf Pack (7-5, 4-4 MWC) with 141.92 yards per game.

The Wildcats are 6-9-1 all-time in bowl games. They lost their last two post-season appearance in 2009 and 2010, and missed out on a bowl game last season.

Nevada also has a losing record in bowl games at 4-8. The Wolf Pack fell to Southern Miss 24-17 last season in the Hawaii Bowl.

The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl kicks off at 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPN and is played at Bronco Stadium in Boise. The contest features Toledo of the MAC taking on Utah State of the WAC.

Utah State (10-2, 6-0 WAC) comes in to the game as the outright winners of the 2012 WAC championship. But the Aggies have only one bowl win in their history, 42-33 over Ball State in the 1993 Las Vegas Bowl. Utah State is 1-5 overall in bowl games.

Toledo had a great year, finishing 9-3 overall and 6-2 in the MAC. The Rockets are 8-4 in bowl games, including a 42-41 win last season over Air Force in the Military Bowl.

I hate games that kickoff at 11:00 AM local time……..all should start no later than 1:00 PM local…..there are plenty of days/hours over the next 3 weeks to do that……I know ESPN does not want to mess with their hoops schedules…..
