The Houston Cougars and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs have mutually agreed to cancel their 2013 and 2014 football games, UH assistant athletics director David Bassity confirmed to FBSchedules.com.

Houston was scheduled to host Louisiana Tech on Sept. 7, 2013 and travel to face the Bulldogs on Sept. 13, 2014.

The Cougars further confirmed the cancellation today when they announced that their four non-conference opponents in 2013 are BYU, Rice, Southern, and UTSA.

The two games that were canceled were part of a four-game, home-and-home series that was announced back in March of 2009. Houston won the first game 35-34 in 2011, and Louisiana Tech won the second game 56-49 back in September.

As we mentioned, Houston’s 2013 non-conference schedule now consists of home games vs. BYU (Oct. 19), Rice, and Southern and a game at UTSA (Sept. 28). The Southern game will likely be the season-opener.

Louisiana Tech is now down to three non-conference games. The Bulldogs are slated to open the 2013 season at NC State, travel to Kansas (Sept. 21), and host Army in the Heart of Dallas Kickoff Classic at the Cotton Bowl (Sept. 28).

Both Houston and Louisiana Tech will have new conference homes in 2013. The Cougars are moving from Conference USA to the Big East, while the Bulldogs will leave the WAC for Conference USA.

There was not a lot of bellyaching when BYU seemed to stiff La Tech out of 2011-2012 games when adding TCU to the schedule in 2011.

Is it possible that these games were postponed. 9/14/13 appears to fit nicely as a last non-conference game for both.

That is a shame because the past two games were pretty fun to watch!

Do you mean with “Southern” the “Southern University Jaguars” from the “Southern University and A&M College” Baton Rouge, Louisiana?

Houston is going down quickly. Playing the dregs of the college football world coupled with the Terrible teams from CUSA joining the new league is too much for this long term cougar fan to endure. Mack Rhodes should be fired for an inept football schedule and an even worse selection of Tony Levine for a head football coach. This once proud football program has been handed a death sentence. After 30 years of season tickets I am finally giving them up until The university gets serious about having a football orogram
