The Texas State Bobcats have added the Prairie View A&M Panthers to their 2013 football schedule, the San Marcos Daily Record reported last month.

Texas State will host Prairie View A&M at Bobcat Stadium in San Marcos. A date for the game is to be announced.

The game tentatively completes the non-conference schedule for the Bobcats in 2013, which also includes a home game against Wyoming on Sept. 28. Texas State opens the season at Southern Miss on Aug. 31 and also travels to Texas Tech on Sept. 21.

Although the 2013 Sun Belt schedule has yet to be announced, the SMDR reports that Texas State will face Arkansas State, Florida Atlantic, Georgia State, Middle Tennessee, Troy, ULM, UL-Lafayette, and Western Kentucky. Those opponents could change if Florida Atlantic and Middle Tennessee opt to leave the conference early.

2013 College Football Schedule Update

With the Texas State-Prairie View A&M news, there are now only seven teams that need non-conference games in 2013. That number could be as low as five based on some Internet speculation.

One of those teams that could have their final 2013 game is Tulane. Several readers have indicated that Tulane will host Jackson State on Aug. 31. Neither school would confirm to us that the game has been scheduled or finalized.

The other school that may have an additional non-conference game is BYU. On Friday, Vanquish The Foe retweeted our “Teams That Need Non-Conference Games” article and mentioned BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe in the tweet:

@RealDSean then tweeted “OMG, The AD just scheduled Cuse.” Holmoe responded with “Nope…”

So it seems that BYU may not need any non-conference games in 2013. That could also mean they have a 13th game scheduled, too. There is also the possibility that BYU won’t play 13 games.

BYU is currently slated to play at Hawaii on Dec. 7, which gives them the opportunity to play 13 games under the Hawaii Exemption. But if San Diego State decides to stay in the Mountain West, the conference will have 12 members and can stage a championship game. That game would have to be played the weekend of Dec. 7, possibly forcing the BYU-Hawaii game to be moved or postponed.

My guess is that BYU schedules Southern Utah. There is also the possibility that BYU hosts UNLV or another MWC team with the 13th game Hawaii exemption that is hoping to take advantage of the MWC’s national tv bonus.

I go to school here @ SUU, playing @ BYU the week before the Holy War game is all that the players have been talking about for weeks. They are hoping they will be so focused on the rivalry game they will have a shot. It won’t be competitive, but it could be fun for a half. It’s a big deal here and a fun game for our campus.

SUU’s coaching staff is packed full of BYU football alumni. It would be a fun matchup!

Rumors are floating around in Provo that BYU has interviewed SUU OC Steve Clark for a position on the Cougars’ 2013 offense staff. That could add to the intrigue!

SUU is already scheduled to play the Cougars in 2013 on 9/14. Problem is though for SUU fans hoping for BYU, its the Washington State Cougars scheduled to play in Pullman Wa on 9/14.

The rumor is that BYU will play Missouri at Arrowhead Stadium on either September 14 or 28, giving them a game against every BCS Conference in 2013. That means BYU would still need 1 game to get to 6 home games, and the rumor is that it will be a FCS team that is in the region.

Here is my thinking from all that’s being rumored. BYU plays Missouri at Arrowhead on 9/28, because the 14th is tied up already with Grambling and someone else at Arrowhead. Also I still am very confident BYU plays either Duke or Wake Forest in Provo in 2013 on one of the remaining open dates. I’m holding strong on this and not backing down. Its done except for the paperwork from what I’m told. Go Cougars and just win now and the future Scheduling will continue to take care of itself.

Between Duke and Wake Forest, I would put my money on Duke. Wake Forest already has two non-conference road games. I could also see the game scheduled for November 30; that’s the same weekend that Clemson, FSU, and Georgia Tech play their SEC rivals – creates openings in the ACC schedule.

Mizzou at Arrowhead and Duke in Provo would really put BYU’s schedule into the “toughest” ever category. While Duke should be a win, it’s not Idaho or NMSU. Missouri is struggling to find itself in the SEC, but the Tigers will still be a tough opponent.

The 2013 schedule would have a great home slate: Texas, Utah, Georgia Tech, Boise State, MTSU, and Duke. The road trippers will freak out, with awesome venues such as South Bend, Wisconsin, Honolulu, Reliant Stadium in Houston, and now Arrowhead in KC.

I hope Anonymous is on to something.

BYU/Missouri would be a great game to see, safe to say that would get picked up by ESPN.

Well with all the rumors that MTSU and FAU could move play in CUSA in 2013 really puts a crunch on Sun Belt teams to find an extra game if it happens. Guess we will see what unfolds from the upcoming CUSA meetings.
