The Troy Trojans and the Duke Blue Devils have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2013 and 2014, Troy announced today.

Troy will travel to face Duke at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham in 2013 on a date to be announced. The game will be the first ever meeting between the two schools. The final game of the series will hosted by Troy at Veterans Memorial Stadium in 2014.

Due to Florida Atlantic and Middle Tennessee leaving for C-USA a year earlier than expected, all Sun Belt teams were left needing one non-conference game in order to have a full 12-game schedule. The Trojans are the first SBC team to announce the addition of that game.

“We knew there was a strong possibility of Middle Tennessee and Florida Atlantic leaving the league early,” Troy athletics director John Hartwell said. “It was important for our football program to be proactive and have a scheduling plan in place for when it happened. The series with Duke is exciting for our program as we have the opportunity to play a quality ACC team on the road and then get another home game against an opponent from an automatic qualifying conference.”

Troy opens the 2013 season at home on Aug. 31 against in-state rival UAB. The following week (Sept. 7), Savannah State visits Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Trojans travel to face Mississippi State (Sept. 21), Ole Miss (Nov. 16), and Duke (date TBA).

In Sun Belt Conference play, Troy will host South Alabama, Texas State, and ULM and will travel to Arkansas State, Georgia State, Western Kentucky, and UL Lafayette.

Duke has also finished their 2013 non-conference slate with the addition of Troy. Duke also hosts Navy (Oct. 12), N.C. Central (date TBA) and travels to Memphis (Sept. 7).

ACC home games for the Blue Devils include Georgia Tech, Miami, Pittsburgh, and NC State. Duke plays at North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest.

Good for Troy getting a home and home with the Blue Devils. Duke should ask Mizzou and Oklahoma State about making a trip to Troy. Not a wise move.
