UAB updates Future Football Schedules

By Kevin Kelley -

UAB BlazersThe UAB Blazers have updated their future football schedules, the school announced on Friday.

UAB will host the Alabama A&M Bulldogs at Legion Field in Birmingham on Sept. 13, 2014. The game will be the first ever meeting between the two schools, which are separated by just over 100 miles.

The UAB-Alabama A&M match-up was first announced last month by A&M director of athletics Bryan Hicks, but a date was not revealed.

Other non-conference games in 2014 for UAB include the season-opener vs. Troy on Aug. 30 and a trip to Mississippi State on Sept. 6.

UAB also announced that a 2016-17 home-and-home series with Navy and a 2016 home game against Ole Miss have been canceled. Since the Midshipmen are joining the Big East in 2015, they had to clear most games off of their schedule from 2016 forward.

No reason was specified for the cancellation of the Ole Miss game.

UAB’s 2013 football schedule was announced in January. The Blazers open the season on Aug. 31 at in-state rival Troy.

Like this site shared earlier, it’s surprising how many lower-tier FBS programs are now putting FCS teams on their schedules. Probably why they are making fewer trips to the major FBS teams.

Yes Derek, They prefer to have 6 home games and no major program wants to travel to play UAB.

If you were the AD what would you do?

Why is Navy still considering joining the Big East? They used to be in C-USA and left to be independent, why would they rejoin the NEW C-USA? By that time, both Cincinnati and Connecticut would have been swallowed up by the ACC to cover losses to the B1G or the Big 12, so it really will be basically the same conference they left years ago…

Talking about when Navy was in C-USA, if they join the Big East in 2015 it will be the same teams they left when they left C-USA back in the day.

UAB needs to drop out of CUSA, and go back to the Sunbelt conference. That way they can be the big dog again in a little conference. It worked for Gene Bartow in Basketball. It could work with football also.

I think its a Big Mistake. By UAB If they Give up Football .They Need to Go to Conference like the big Ten .That need a Southern & Western Teams and the Money They get From the big 10 or someone like them . Would Help the University ….I am a UAB Blazer Football Team Fan….
