College Football Playoff Rankings for Nov. 25 Released

By Kevin Kelley -

The College Football Playoff Rankings for Nov. 25 have been released by the Selection Committee and the Alabama Crimson Tide remained in first place.

Alabama is followed by Oregon (2), Florida State (3), and Mississippi State (4). Just outside the top four are TCU (5), Ohio State (6), and Baylor (7).

“This has been a week of stability in the rankings, especially at the top. Given the way the games were played over the past week, there was very little change,” said selection chairman Jeff Long. “As important as the rankings are at the top, I want to continue to emphasize we focus on all 25. Our job is to rank 1-25 and we take that very seriously. We spend a great deal of time talking about each team that we rank.”

Two Group of Five teams have entered the College Football Playoff Rankings this week. Boise State (9-2) is 23rd and Marshall (11-0) is 24th.

Overall fine with the rankings. I guess it really doesn’t matter who is in the top four as long as they don’t decide to just keep putting teams in front of FSU. At this rate why don’t they just put Miss St ahead of them also and then after the confernce championship games go ahead and put maybe TCU or Ohio St ahead as well. They have totally disregarded winning and it is by far the most important factor. They “finish” the games, the objective. The committee lost me when they decided to go this route. Especially with the teams that FSU has beaten. Quality oppenents on a weekly basis. Being that college football seasons are short I feel it’s hard to recognize and appreciate what FSU is actually doing. As a college football fan in general, not a FSU fan I can’t help but love and admire what they have been able to do as a team for such a long stretch. How long can they continue their success with all the pressure? Then when they continue to win they still don’t get the respect they deserve. I sure hope they get through these next two games. A lot tougher games than I think people will give them credit for. Other than the top four what’s it really matter. We can argue all day about those. I just hope we get some good quality bowls. If you are ranked in the top 12 you should be playing someone ranked in the top 12. Unfortunately with all of the automatic bowl qualifications we don’t get as good of OOC Bowl games as we should. If I’m correct the SEC and PAC12 didn’t play against each other In a bowl. And we want to compare conferences or in some people’s case (I won’t say names) complain about OOC scheduling. Impossible. If we really want to figure it out. Lets…

I understand where you are coming from with FSU but with them not playing a top 25 opponent & the way they struggling with every team does not help. I think FSU is an incredible team that can not lose, no matter what, they will find a way to win & trying to keep a winning streak going when every team is aiming for you is not easy. Also with all the off the field issues with Winston & coaches trying to keep the kids focused for every game may be they have earned the right to be number one, rival week is here so lots of changes will happen in the top 10 I think.

Still believe a play off similar to FCS playoff’s…. But instead of having 24 teams just have 16 & then something like the NIT tournament for the next best 24 or 16 teams …. I do enjoy watching all the bowls but having an national championship bracket & Invitational tournament would spike the interest for sure… Then wouldn’t continue to read/listen TCU, Baylor, Georgia, UCLA or Miss State & to a lesser degree Boise State, Marshall or Colorado State…
A 16 team playoff would be intriguing by far…
Georgia Tech @ Alabama, Georgia @ UCLA, Michigan State @ Baylor, Arizona @ Ohio State, Kansas State @ TCU, Arizona State @ Miss State, Wisconsin @ Florida State, Auburn @ Oregon

FSU did beat Clemson and Louisville. Both of who were deserving of higher rankings earlier in the season, the reason they are the two lowest ranked three loss teams and GT is lowest 2 loss team. No one gives the ACC any love. But they give UCLA credit for beating a good USC team but hate on FSU for beating a bad BC team. But yet BC did beat USC. That doesn’t make sense.

Not hating on you, I just entirely disagree. For those that have never been a direct part of the bowls I can understand how you might not appreciate it. But the bowl games are an awesome part of college football and are a great experience for the players and fans. They could be much better if they got rid of the automatic qualifying bowls and played the best vs the best but for some reason they don’t. This isn’t the NFL and this is one of the things that makes college football so exciting and how it seperates itself from the NFL. Not all of those teams you stated are deserving of making the playoff. Anything can happen on any given day in college football, so any of those teams you mentioned could win the playoff but doesn’t mean that they are deserving. The regular season is suppose to mean something. I don’t want this to become like the NFL where you have a team get hot at the end of the season and win out although they struggled throughout the season. This puts all the weight on the regular season and being consistent throughout the entire year. Something that is clearly undervalued after seeing where FSU is ranked. A Joke.

Simple fact Jeff Long is a joke. Bias towards the SEC (although they are the best conf) and tries to balance it out and make/keep people happy by putting Oregon in front of FSU also. How would people react if only Alabama was in front of FSU?

There schould qualify for the five Bowl games (Rose, Orange, Peach, Fiesta, Sugar) the Champions from the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12, SEC plus one Champion from the Group of five (AAC, C-USA, MAC, MWC, Sun Belt) plus four at-Large Teams.

There would be the following games:

Sugar Bowl (Semifinal): Alabama vs. TCU
Rose Bowl (Seminfal): Oregon vs. Florida State

Orange Bowl: Georgia Tech vs. Georgial
Cotton Bowl: Baylor vs. Marshall
Fiesta Bowl: Ohio State vs. UCLA

As much as it’s fun to discuss this latest “poll”, it means nothing. This coming week’s poll, taking in account the games this week, may be the most important one prior to the final poll, which of course is the only one that matters. Auburn vs. Alabama, Miss St. vs. Ole Miss., Minnesota vs. Wisconsin, Georgia Tech vs. Georgia, Florida vs. Florida State, Arkansas vs. Missouri, Arizona State vs. Arizona, and of course today’s Thanksgiving match-up of TCU vs. Texas will all play a huge factor of what we’ll see Tuesday night as well as ALL the other games. Your team winning it’s game this weekend will be important, but just as equally will be how your prior opponents fair this weekend. We have this season MANY good teams, but really no GREAT teams that stand out ahead of the large pack. Glad I’m not responsible for trying to pick the “best” four, because truly there are about 6-7-8 teams that are fairly equal.

Pulling for List; Mississippi State is pulling for South Alabama to beat Navy, TCU is pulling for Minnesota to best Wisconsin, Florida State is pulling for Notre Dame to USC and Ohio State is pulling for Virginia Tech to beat Virginia. These games do matter. I think the South Alabama game is maybe the most important one, due to the fact Mississippi State has such a weak schedule that they need anything to try to help enhance it. If Navy beat South Alabama, Ohio State and others will automatically jump the Bulldogs (just watch).

That will have nothing to do with it as it shouldn’t. Miss St is ahead of Ohio St because of who they have beaten in conference and because of the conference they are in. Simple facts. The SECbis the best conference therefore a one loss team from the SEC should and will continue to be ranked higher.

Patrick Ryan, I have to respectfully disagree with you. As simple as it may seem to you, it’s not that simple. As you believe Mississippi State is deserving of the Number Four position with having one loss and being in the SEC West, it’s not enough. The depth of Miss St’s schedule is very thin and they need all the help they can get. They are 3-1 in their only away games thus far with wins over Kentucky (5-6 SEC East), LSU (7-4 SEC West), SOUTH ALABAMA (6-5 Sun Belt) and the loss at Alabama (10-1 SEC West). All seven of their home games were victories, with; Southern Miss (3-8 Conf USA), UAB (6-5 Conf USA), Texas A&M (7-4 SEC West), Auburn (8-3 SEC West), Arkansas (6-5 SEC West), UT-Martin (6-6 Ohio Valley), and Vanderbilt (3-8 SEC East) being their victims. Sorry, but their and their opponent records and this schedule does not deserve a Number Four ranking even with the perception that was given early to the SEC West. Miss St can not afford to lose any ground if they want to make any argument in being in the “Playoff”. The lack of the SEC’s total depth (not just the few) and with the lack of challenging non-conference schedules by the SEC as a whole is most likely going to cost the Bulldogs of any chance. So with that being said (written), the South Alabama vs. Navy game does matter to Mississippi State. Have a great Thanksgiving.

Believe it or not I do think it is that simple. To a degree at least. I do believe that they are deserving of the #4 spot. However with that being said I don’t think that they deserve a shot in the playoff simply because they just got beat by Alabama. Being that their loss came this late in the season to a one loss Alabama team, I don’t think they would get into the playoff. There are many other teams with identical records that deserve a chance. If the loss would have come on the first or second week of the season I might feel differently.
