2015 Conference USA football schedule announced

By Brian Wilmer -

The 2015 Conference USA football schedule has been released. Conference play begins on Saturday, September 12 with Louisiana Tech at Western Kentucky.

For 2015, Conference USA welcomes the Charlotte 49ers as a new member. UAB has discontinued their football program, which leaves C-USA with an odd number of schools (13) for the second consecutive season. Charlotte will play in the East Division, giving that division seven teams, while the West has six.

The 2015 C-USA Championship Game will be played on Saturday, December 5 and will be televised by ESPN or ESPN2.

Featured 2015 non-conference match-ups for Conference USA include Charlotte at Kentucky, FIU at UCF, Miami (FL) at Florida Atlantic, Louisiana Tech at Mississippi State, Purdue at Marshall, Middle Tennessee at Alabama, North Texas at Tennessee, NC State at Old Dominion, Rice at Baylor, Southern Miss at Nebraska, UTEP at Arkansas, Kansas State at UTSA, and Western Kentucky at LSU.

Conference USA missed the ball with the last week’s scheduling. In a watered down conference, you should try to create some excitement for the last week of the season with the scheduling of regional rivals. Should have been:
FIU at Florida Atlantic
Rice at UTSA
Middle Tennessee at WKU
&
Marshall at Charlotte OR Charlotte at Old Dominion OR Old Dominion at Marshall

Got these right:
UTEP at North Texas
Southern Miss at Louisiana Tech

I agree. I don’t live in that region of the country, but I have noticed that conference rivals don’t tend to play on the final week of the season. I think in 2014, the final week matchups included ODU @ FAU and MTSU @ UTEP.
It should be for 2015: FIU/FAU, UTSA/UTEP, UNT/Rice, LT/SMiss. Either MTSU, WKU, Marshall, Charlotte, or ODU should have a bye on the final week of the season. FIU will have a bye on the final week of the season for the second straight year.
