Idaho adds Indiana and San Jose State to Future Schedules

By Kevin Kelley -

The Idaho Vandals have added four games with San Jose State and two games with Indiana to their future football schedules, GoVandals.net has reported.

Idaho will travel to take on the San Jose State Spartans at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, California in 2019 and 2021. The Vandals will host the Spartans at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow in 2020 and 2022.

The two schools first met in 1946 and have squared off a total of 24 times. San Jose State leads the overall series 13-10-1.

Idaho has also scheduled two games against the Indiana Hoosiers. The Vandals will travel to Memorial Stadium in Bloomington in 2021 and again in 2022.

The 2021 matchup will be the first-ever meeting between Idaho and Indiana. Per Idaho athletic director Rob Spear, the Vandals will receive a $1.2 million guarantee from IU in 2021 and $1.3 million in 2022.

Idaho’s non-conference schedule is tentatively complete through the 2018 season. The Vandals need one more game in 2019, two in 2020, and one each in 2021 and 2022.

Why in the hell would Indiana schedule them for two years, let alone two successive years? One would assume it would be to get the win but you never know with IU. Schedule more MAC schools even if they beat you – Toledo and WMU would be interesting, high-scoring matchups.

If Idaho and New Mexico State have to leave the Sun Belt Conference, instead of going Independent, they should join the WAC, and the WAC should bring in 12 FCS Schools to the FBS Level such as North Dakota State, Montana, Montana State, South Dakota State, Missouri State, Illinois State, Sacramento State, UC Davis, Portland State, Eastern Washington, Southern Illinois and Youngstown State. With East-west Divisions, a Championship game, and an ESPN/FOX Sports TV Deal? ~

Most of those schools have soundly rejected moving up to FBS. More likely…. the XII gets off the pot and brings in schools from the MW such as Colorado State and New Mexico, adds BYU football only, and Cincinnati. That would have the MW accept NMSU and Idaho as replacements for teams lost to stay at 12.

There is no more WAC for football. Idaho will drop to FCS soon.

This is a terrible move by SJSU. Boring games against a awful program. No one is going to want to spend money to see this godawful team.
