2016 Big 12 Football Schedule Announced

The 2016 Big 12 Football Schedule has been announced. Conference play begins on Saturday, Sept. 17 with TCU hosting Iowa State.

Featured non-conference match-ups for the Big 12 in 2016 include SMU at Baylor, Iowa State at Iowa, Kansas at Memphis, Kansas State at Stanford, Ohio State at Oklahoma, Pittsburgh at Oklahoma State, Arkansas at TCU, Notre Dame at Texas, Texas Tech at Arizona State, and BYU vs. West Virginia (at Landover, MD).

Dates are subject to change as adjustments are expected to accommodate television partners’ requests. Television selections for the first three weeks of the season and special dates are due to the Conference by June 1.

Top four teams currently in the standings get that extra bye and play on December 3.

BIG XII is such whack. Play by the same rules as everyone else.

I guess they could drop a conference opponent and schedule a cupcake for that open Nov. slot like the SEC does. Would that be better?

The SEC does take off one week in November, the Big 12 takes off the entire month of September.

The SEC, ACC, Big ten all voted against 9 conference games and only one non power 5 opponent.

Pac 12 and Big 12 play 9 conference games.
The Big 12 plays each team. The division alignment of other conferences protect the top 2 or 3 teams in each division from playing each other every 4 years.

@Whitlock304 Your comment on the Big Ten is just factually wrong. They move to 9 conference games in 2016. This was announced in July 2013. They prohibit FCS games and you must schedule a non conference P5 game to give you 10 games against P5 schools. There are some exceptions to the non conference P5 game (i.e. Navy, Cincinnati qualify as a game), but the Big Ten must approve first.

I’ve never understood this argument that playing 9 conference games makes your schedule tougher. How is an extra game against the likes of Purdue, Wake Forest, Kansas, or Oregon State going to make your resume more attractive at the end of the year? Instead of an extra game against a crappy conference opponent, why not schedule an extra game against a quality non-conference opponent?

I noticed that every single B12 game during championship week (first week of December) was set up with the potential of it being rescheduled for the possibility of the addition of a CCG. Every single game is between two teams that have a same bye week. Makes me think that this was done with that thought in mind. The conference might love their whole little set up but they need to start seriously considering a change in the format for the better of the conference and the future..

The Big 12 is expecting the NCAA to deregulate championship games. If/when that happens, the Big 12 would have a championship game with the current 10 teams as early as next year.
