Appalachian State adds ETSU, Gardner-Webb to future schedules

By Brian Wilmer -

Appalachian State has scheduled future home games with East Tennessee State and Gardner-Webb, the school reported Friday.

Gardner-Webb (FCS/Big South Conference) will face off against the Mountaineers at Kidd-Brewer Stadium on September 22, 2018. ETSU (FCS/Southern Conference) will play Appalachian State twice, on August 31 of both 2019 and 2024.

The schools are familiar with each other from their time as FCS opponents. The Mountaineers own victories in all seven games against the Runnin’ Bulldogs, while ETSU and Appalachian State have faced off on 46 occasions in a series that dates back nearly 90 years. The Bucs have 14 wins (with one tie) against the Mountaineers.

ETSU announced the games in a separate release, along with 2019 and 2021 contests against Vanderbilt. Exact dates were not announced for the two games with the Commodores.

Appalachian State completed its 2018 schedule with the addition of the Runnin’ Bulldogs. The Mountaineers will visit Penn State and Charlotte, while welcoming Southern Miss to Boone, North Carolina, one week before the contest against Gardner-Webb.

Charlotte will return the trip to Boone one week after the 2019 game against ETSU.
