West Virginia adds Delaware State to 2017 Football Schedule

By Kevin Kelley -

The West Virginia Mountaineers have added the Delware State Hornets to their 2017 football schedule, the school announced on Friday.

West Virginia will host Delaware State at Mountaineer Field in Morgantown on Sept. 16, 2017. The game will be the first-ever between the two schools and the Hornets will receive a $500,000 guarantee from WVU, according to a copy of the contract obtained via an FOIA request.

Delaware State is a member of the Mid-Eastern Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Last season, the Hornets finished 1-10 overall and 1-7 in the MEAC.

West Virginia has now completed their non-conference schedule in 2017 with the addition of Delaware State. The Mountaineers open the season on Sept. 2 against Virginia Tech at FedEx Field in Landover. One week later on Sept. 9, WVU hosts East Carolina.

Gotta hand it to West Virginia. They are working hard to improve on that Big 12 schedule. And somehow, adding Delaware State is improving on the Big 12 schedule…

looking at WVUs OOC in recent years and going forward a game with and FCS opponent is not a problem. In most years it looks like WVU is scheduling 2 OOC games with P5 teams.

Now, had they scheduled Delaware, a constant FCS power… or *any* CAA team, like a James Madison, or Villanova, or Maine, or New Hampshire, we’d give them some credit. But about the bottom of the barrel FCS? What, are they trying to out-Baylor Baylor?

2017 is their weakest non conf schedule. This year & 2018 on its legit. Look @ their future schedules. Out Baylor, Baylor? Whatever dude. Lay off the smoke.

What a crock of crap! Why not schedule a high football team and save the money. A half a million is ridiculous
