UMass swaps Mississippi State and Tennessee dates in 2017

By Kevin Kelley -

The UMass Minutemen have swapped the dates for their games at Mississippi State and Tennessee in 2017, FBSchedules.com has learned.

UMass was previously scheduled to travel to Mississippi State on Sept. 23, 2017 and to Tennessee on Nov. 4, 2017. A couple of scheduling issues arose and the Minutemen swapped the dates, UMass director of athletics Ryan Bamford confirmed.

The Minutemen will now take on Tennessee in Knoxville on Sept. 23, 2017 and Mississippi State in Starkville on Nov. 4, 2017.

A few other game dates involving several schools have also been changed as a result. Southern Miss was set to visit Tennessee in Knoxville on Sept. 23, 2017. However, a recent amendment we obtained via a public records request to USM revealed that the Golden Eagles will now play at Tennessee on Nov. 4, 2017.

Tennessee was also scheduled to host Indiana State on Sept. 23, 2017. With the UMass game now occupying that date, Tennessee’s game with the Sycamores was moved up to Sept. 9, 2017.

Below is a look at the revised schedule for UMass in 2017 and the non-conference schedules for Mississippi State and Tennessee:

This still gives no reason for the swap.

The reason? The SEC is getting their 2017 schedule worked out and they decided these games needed to move to make it work.

Tennessee plays Georgia Tech on Labor Day. I can guarantee they switched to Indiana State on the 9th to give them a complete breather (although the opponent was UMASS
