SMU to host Houston Baptist in 2018

By Kevin Kelley -

The SMU Mustangs will host the Houston Baptist Huskies in 2018, according to the official website of HBU athletics.

SMU will host Houston Baptist at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas, Texas on Sept. 22, 2018. The game will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Houston Baptist is a member of the Southland Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Huskies started their football program in 2013 and have an overall record of 6-22.

The addition of Houston Baptist tentatively completes the 2018 non-conference schedule for SMU. The Mustangs are currently scheduled to open the 2018 season on Sept. 1 at North Texas. Other games that season include at Michigan on Sept. 15 and home vs. TCU on Sept. 29.

SMU is slated to open the 2016 season with back-to-back road games at North Texas on Sept. 3 and Baylor on Sept. 10. The Mustangs then host Liberty on Sept. 17 and TCU on Friday, Sept. 23 before beginning American Athletic Conference play at Temple on Oct. 1.
