Grambling vs. NCCU is not a “bowl” game, just a game between two 1-AA teams whose conferences don’t want any part of the 1-AA playoffs….

Actually it’s the HBCU college football national championship between the SWAC and the MEAC champions.
You’re still right about the SWAC and MEAC not wanting or are basically unable to go the playoffs.
Some teams in the SWAC play during Thanksgiving weekend during the first round of the 1-AA/FCS playoffs and the SWAC has a title game on the first Saturday in December like all the other FBS conferences do.
This prohibits them, coupled with weak scheduling within their own conferences (and D-2 games with other HBCUs) and money games by both conferences.
I’m still unsure why it’s called a bowl game either but I’m one of those guys that enjoys a great game of football no matter what division it is. At least it gives them something to play for after the mediocrity they’ve had in the playoffs and it actually crowns a champion similar to the CFP or the FCS playoffs.
