Michigan State, Bowling Green announce 2017 schedule changes

By Kevin Kelley -

Michigan State was set to open the 2017 football season with a bye and had been working to change that. Today, the changes came to fruition.

The Spartans announced that they have moved up their home previously scheduled home game against Bowling Green one week to Saturday, Sept. 2.

MSU has also moved up their previously scheduled game against Western Michigan to Sept. 9. The Broncos were previously scheduled to visit Spartan Stadium on Sept. 16.

Michigan State will now have Sept. 16 as a bye date before welcoming Notre Dame to East Lansing on Sept. 23.

Bowling Green was originally scheduled to open the season at home on Sept. 2 against the South Dakota Coyotes. Since they are now playing at Michigan State on Sept. 2, Bowling Green will host South Dakota on Sept. 9, per their announcement.

Western Michigan, which agreed to move their contest at Michigan State to Sept. 9, has changed dates for two other contests as a result, according to Brian Kaufman of WWMT News.

The Broncos will now host Idaho on Sept. 16 and Wagner on Sept. 23. Those two contests moved from Sept. 23 and Sept. 9, respectively.

Michigan State might need a bye after playing Western Michigan before Notre Dame. Then again, who knows what kind of screwed up Irish team Brian Kelly will drag into Spartan Stadium.
