Arkansas adds San Jose State to 2019 football schedule

By Kevin Kelley -

The Arkansas Razorbacks have added the San Jose State Spartans to their 2019 football schedule, WholeHogSports has reported.

Arkansas will host San Jose State in either Fayetteville or Little Rock on Sept. 21, 2019. The game will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

The addition of San Jose State gives Arkansas three non-conference opponents in 2019. The Razorbacks are also scheduled to host Portland State on Aug. 31 and Colorado State on Sept. 14.

In SEC play in 2019, Arkansas will host Auburn, Mississippi State, Missouri, and Texas A&M (in Arlington, TX) and travel to play Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, and Kentucky.

San Jose State has now tentatively completed their 2019 non-conference schedule with the addition of Arkansas. The Spartans are also slated to host Tulsa (Sept. 7) and travel to California (Sept. 14) and Army (Oct. 19).

Mountain West opponents for San Jose State in 2019 include Boise State, Fresno State, New Mexico, and San Diego State at home and Air Force, Hawaii, Nevada, and UNLV on the road.

Any rumors or speculation who will be Arkansas’ P5 opponent for 2018 & 2019?

I know that BYU was thought to be a good fit to replace Michigan on Arkansas’ schedule, road 2018 and at FV or LR 2019. But no more heard on that matchup.

Any info?

San Jose State has been playing SEC teams for many years. They’ve played Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Florida and Tennessee so far. And they’ve played just as many Big Ten teams as well.

Actually they were scheduled at one time to play the Vols but that game was canceled for some reason. While the Spartans have had their hat handed to them by Florida,Alabama and the first game against Auburn….they have played well in the second game against the Tigers and gave LSU all they wanted in their lone match-up. Looking forward to playing the Razorbacks!!

Historically, the Razorbacks have had difficulty getting non-conference opponents to come to Fayetteville. It’s easier today, due the completion of I-49 and the regional airport. But, the difficulty of visiting teams winning at Razorback Stadium is no secret. Arkansas may seriously want to re-think Oklahoma State’s “two for one” overture. This would satisfy the “one annual “power five,” non-conference opponent” requirement. Stillwater is a mere 164 miles from Fayetteville. O.S.U. has a large alumni contingent in Tulsa who would see Fayetteville as a home game. Arkansas holds a 30-15-1 advantage in this series which ended in 1980. I also like playing a Mountain West team at Razorback Stadium annually. It is expensive! However, if a home and home basketball series is thrown into mix, the football guarantee may be reduced; as it was with Colorado State…U of A may also want to take a hard look at renewing the Tulsa series; if all of the games are played at Fayetteville as before…As with Oklahoma State, this is an ancient rivalry that dates back to the time of Hugo Bezdek…
