Syracuse completes 2018 non-conference football schedule

By Kevin Kelley -

The Syracuse Orange have completed their 2018 non-conference football schedule with the addition of the Wagner Seahawks, the school announced on Monday.

Syracuse will host Wagner at the Carrier Dome on Sept. 8. The game will be the second meeting between the two schools following the Orange’s 54-0 victory in 2013.

Wagner is a member of the Northeast Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Seahawks finished the 2016 season 6-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

“We’re happy to have Wagner on the schedule again, a team from our home state,” Syracuse Director of Athletics John Wildhack said. “This game fits with our philosophy of putting together a schedule which collectively balances our non-conference opponents and ACC opponents.”

Syracuse is scheduled to open the 2018 season on Sept. 1 in Kalamazoo, Michigan against the Western Michigan Broncos. The game is part of a home-and-home series that concludes at the Carrier Dome in 2019.

On Sept. 29, the Orange host the UConn Huskies. Syracuse won the two most recent meetings in the series, 40-10 in 2012 and 31-24 in 2016, but still trail in the overall series 6-2.

The fourth and final non-conference game of the season for Syracuse is at Notre Dame on Nov. 17. The Fighting Irish defeated the Orange 50-33 last season in East Rutherford, NJ and now leads the series 5-3.

In ACC play in 2018, Syracuse is scheduled to host Florida State, Louisville, NC State, and North Carolina and travel to Boston College, Clemson, Wake Forest, and Pittsburgh.

Criticizing Wagner. What ignorant morons! Have you not looked at the other opponents? Syracuse is playing at Notre Dame in 2018. That automatically makes Syracuse #2 in SOS, ND being #1 of course. ND is the end all be all of human existence. The 4 letter network and one 3 letter network have been telling us that for years. I get the feeling some people don’t believe it. smh
