Syracuse and Western Michigan schedule 2018-19 football series

By Kevin Kelley -

The Syracuse Orange and the Western Michigan Broncos have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2018 and 2019, both schools announced on Monday.

In the first game of the series, Syracuse will travel to take on Western Michigan at Waldo Stadium in Kalamazoo on Sept. 1, 2018. The Orange will then host the Broncos at the Carrier Dome on Sept. 21, 2019.

The 2018 contest will be the first-ever meeting between Syracuse and Western Michigan on the gridiron.

“We have a great deal of respect for Western Michigan and the Mid-American Conference,” said Syracuse Director of Athletics John Wildhack. “Western Michigan has a long history of success. We look forward to a competitive series.”

The addition of WMU tentatively completes Syracuse’s non-conference schedule for both the 2018 and 2019 seasons. In 2018, the Orange are also scheduled to host UConn (Sept. 29) and Wagner (per report; date TBA) and travel to Notre Dame (Nov. 17).

In 2019, Syracuse is also slated to host Holy Cross (date TBA) and travel to both Liberty (Aug. 31) and Maryland (Sept. 7).

Western Michigan now has three announced non-conference opponents for the 2018 season and four for 2019. In addition to opening vs. Syracuse, WMU is scheduled to travel to Michigan (Sept. 8) and Georgia State (Sept. 22) in 2018.

In 2019, the Broncos are slated to open vs. Monmouth (Aug. 31), travel to Michigan State (Sept. 7), and host Georgia State (Sept. 14) the week prior to visiting Syracuse.

“Western Michigan has a long history of success.”

If you count 3 years as “long”

A true home and home series…..very exciting to see.
Shep, you have a legitimate point….the true test of how well WMU will do is this season, will the Broncos reload or rebuild?
