By Kevin Kelley -

The Liberty Flames and the Old Dominion Monarchs have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2021 and 2022, both schools announced on Friday.

In the first game of the series, Liberty will host Old Dominion at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia on Sept. 18, 2021. The Flames will then travel to face the Monarchs in Norfolk, Virginia on Sept. 24, 2022.

The two schools are also scheduled to meet on Sept. 1, 2018 at Liberty. That game was announced back in May.

Liberty also announced on Friday the addition of five football games against the Virginia Tech Hokies. The two schools will now meet in Blacksburg in 2020, 2027, 2028, and 2029 and in Lynchburg in 2022 and 2030.

“We are very excited about the series with Virginia Tech and especially hosting the Hokies at Williams Stadium in both 2022 and 2030,” said Liberty Director of Athletics Ian McCaw. “Whit Babcock is providing outstanding leadership of their athletics program and Coach Fuente is one of the rising coaching stars in the nation.”

“The series with Old Dominion provides us additional attractive matchups against a high quality opponent in the Commonwealth of Virginia,” continued McCaw. “The job that Wood Selig and Coach Wilder have done in building the Monarchs’ program is remarkable. We continue to make excellent progress in assembling our future football schedules and Flames Nation will be energized as we continue to unveil our future opponents.”

I wonder which school will be the first to upgrade their stadium to 30,000, or such…

The Old Dominion at Liberty game in 2018 is the second leg of a home and home. Those two schools played each other in 2013 at Old Dominion in Old Dominion’s first transitional year at FBS. The 2018 game is the first time that Liberty is scheduled to host an FBS opponent.
