The Southern Miss Golden Eagles and the Mississippi State Bulldogs have scheduled a three-game football series, USM announced on Tuesday.
Southern Miss will travel to take on Mississippi State at Davis-Wade Stadium in Starkville on Sept. 7, 2019 and then four seasons later on Sept. 23, 2023. The Golden Eagles will host the Bulldogs at M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg on Sept. 14, 2024.
Southern Miss and Mississippi State have met 29 times on the gridiron and the series is tied 14-14-1. The Bulldogs have won four straight in the series, including both games of a home-and-home set in 2014 (49-0 in Starkville) and 2015 (34-16 in Hattiesburg).
“We are pleased to announce this series, which is good for the football fans in the state of Mississippi,” said Southern Miss Director of Athletics Jon Gilbert.
The addition of Mississippi State tentatively completes Southern Miss’ non-conference schedule in 2019. The Golden Eagles are also slated to host Alcorn State (Aug. 31) and travel to Alabama (Sept. 21) and Troy (date TBD; was previously Sept. 7).
Mississippi State has also tentatively completed their 2019 non-conference schedule. The Bulldogs are scheduled to open against UL Lafayette in New Orleans (Aug. 31) and later host Kansas State (Sept. 14) and Abilene Christian (Nov. 23).
