Youngstown State to play at Kentucky in 2022, at Maryland in 2027

By Kevin Kelley -

The Youngstown State Penguins will play at the Kentucky Wildcats in 2022 and at the Maryland Terrapins in 2027, FBSchedules.com has learned.

Copies of both game contracts were obtained from Youngstown State University via a state open records request.

Youngstown State will travel to take on Kentucky at Kroger Field in Lexington on Sept. 17, 2022. The Penguins will receive a $550,000 guarantee for the game, according to the contract.

The 2022 contest between Youngstown State and Kentucky will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.

The Penguins are also scheduled to travel to take on the Maryland Terrapins at Maryland Stadium in College Park on Sept. 11, 2027. Youngstown State will receive a $600,000 guarantee for the game, per a copy of the contract.

Youngstown State and Maryland have never met on the football field.

Last week, we reported that Youngstown State will travel to face the Michigan State Spartans in 2021.

YSU is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Penguins are led by former Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini, who enters his fourth season with an overall record of 23-15.

YSU adds Robert Morris and Duquesne

Through the same open records request, FBSchedules.com has also learned that Youngstown State has added future football games against Robert Morris and Duquesne.

YSU will host Robert Morris on Sept. 7, 2019 and the Colonials will receive a $105,000 guarantee. The Penguins will host Duquesne on Sept. 14, 2019 and then again the following season on Sept. 12, 2020 ($100,000 guarantees for each game).

Great to see the extra YSU games were reported despite them not being FBS! A lot of us would be interested in as much FCS schedule news as you can provide!

So West Virginia this year, Sparty in 2021, Maryland in 2022. Any idea who the money game in 2019 or 2020 will be?
