    By Brian Wilmer -

Alabama-Mississippi StateThe time of the season has approached in which we get the updated BCS rankings each week, and the numbers tell us that the SEC is, yet again, at the top of the heap. The conference features the top two, five of the top 11 and seven of the top 25 teams in the BCS standings. Four of those teams face off against each other this week, as #1 Alabama plays #11 Mississippi State, while #2 Florida draws #10 Georgia.

If you honestly needed a reason to watch SEC football, those are two of the most compelling. Let’s take a spin around the conference for Week 9 and see what other compelling matchups await us. Read Full Story »

Clear Your Schedule – ACC, Week 9

    By Brian Wilmer -

Duke-Florida StateWhat a week in the ACC. The leadership of both divisions changed hands, two teams lost stars to injury and the Victory Bell got a new coat of paint. This week’s action features a Thursday night national broadcast, an out-of-conference battle, and the two division leaders facing off against each other. As we prepare for another wild week of Atlantic Coast Conference football, let’s take a run around the conference and see what to expect from Week 9’s slate of games.

    Duke (6-2, 3-1) at #11 Florida State (7-1, 4-1), 3:30 p.m. ET, ESPNU

Program guide: Jamison Crowder’s touchdown grab with 19 seconds remaining last week did so much more than just padding his and quarterback Sean Renfree’s stats (Renfree, by the way, became just the 20th quarterback in ACC history to throw for over 8,000 yards in his career in last week’s game). Read Full Story »

    By Brian Wilmer -

Georgia BulldogsThose of you who are regular readers of the site know that we usually use this space to break down the games taking place around the SEC. With the release of the 2013 SEC football schedule, now is a great time to take a spin around the league and see who has the toughest road ahead next season. Yes, we should probably let the 2012 season end first, but I’m impatient. Join me, won’t you?

Clear Your Schedule – SEC, Week 8

    By Brian Wilmer -

Florida-South CarolinaIt seems unthinkable that a game involving two top-ten teams would be eclipsed by another game, but such is life in the SEC. We focused – rightly so – on the South Carolina-LSU game last week, and despite my referring to Texas A&M-Louisiana Tech as a “must-see affair”, no one could have predicted that outcome. We will try to recap 116 total points in as briefly as we can later, but for now, let’s take a look at what to watch this week around the SEC.

    #9 South Carolina (6-1, 4-1) at #3 Florida (6-0, 5-0), 3:30 pm ET, CBS

Program guide: It seems as though South Carolina has become a fixture in this segment, but a look at their schedule provides all the necessary explanation. The Gamecocks travel to Gainesville for the final game of a murderous three-game run, and the hope for Steve Spurrier is that the offense also makes the trip. Read Full Story »

Clear Your Schedule – ACC, Week 8

    By Brian Wilmer -

Florida State-MiamiAfter a somewhat light week in the ACC that only saw four games, we pick up a six-game slate for another pivotal week of conference play. One team will look to rebound from a stunning loss that sent them tumbling into the middle of the divisional pack, while another will look to continue its unlikely run atop its division. Let’s take a look at what to watch this week around the Atlantic Coast Conference.

    Virginia Tech (4-3, 2-1) at #14 Clemson (5-1, 2-1), noon ET, ABC/ESPN2 (reverse mirror)

This is an important game for a couple of reasons. Clemson looks to continue their winning ways and get the help they need to eventually reach Charlotte, while Virginia Tech tries to spend more time recreating the last three quarters of their 41-20 victory over Duke last week in Blacksburg than the first quarter.

Clear Your Schedule – SEC, Week 7

    By Brian Wilmer -

Steve SpurrierA week after two top-ten battles, Vanderbilt’s first SEC victory, and losses by the two divisional cellar dwellers to push them both to 0-3 in the conference, the SEC (except for Georgia) returns to play this weekend with some great — and not so great — match-ups.

Let’s take a spin through those match-ups and tell you what to put on your calendar for Week 7 of the SEC.

    #3 South Carolina (6-0, 4-0) at #9 LSU (5-1, 1-1), 8:00 pm ET, ESPN

Last week’s episode: South Carolina 35, Georgia 7; Florida 14, LSU 6 Read Full Story »

Clear Your Schedule – ACC, Week 7

    By Brian Wilmer -

Duke Blue DevilsWeek 6 was one of the crazier weeks in recent memory around college football, as three of the top five teams in the nation fell. This obviously had a large impact on the ACC, as well, with Florida State losing in the final minute at Carter-Finley Stadium.

The ACC’s Atlantic Division has a new complexion, as the Coastal now sees a new team in second place outright behind the Miami Hurricanes. Let’s take a look at what to watch for a somewhat light ACC schedule in Week 7. Read Full Story »

Clear Your Schedule – SEC, Week 6

    By Brian Wilmer -

Georgia-South CarolinaThe two new SEC schools (Texas A&M and Missouri) get to play new conference opponents for the first time this week, as Missouri hosts Vanderbilt and Texas A&M goes to Oxford to take on the Ole Miss Rebels. The great match-ups this weekend are in Columbia and Gainesville, though. Let’s take a look at what you’ll need to watch across the SEC this weekend.

Program guide: The SEC has cemented its reputation as an elite conference, and this game is no disappointment. Both teams have very difficult schedules remaining, but this game will go a long way toward determining the SEC East champion. The first of two games involving two top ten opponents features a number of intriguing story lines. Read Full Story »

    By Brian Wilmer -

Miami-Notre DameWeek 6 features a number of interesting matchups involving current – and future – ACC teams, including two nationally-televised night games. Let’s take a look around the conference and tell you what to watch for this week.

The ACC Coastal Division leaders travel to South Bend to take on their longtime rivals and future conference mates in the matchup of the week. It’s no Catholics vs. Convicts, but this game takes on a whole new level of interest with both schools off to a blazing start. Read Full Story »
