DeAndre HopkinsSpeaking to 790 The Zone today, Clemson athletics director Terry Don Phillips said he “absolutely” expects the Tigers to play their future home-and-home football series against Georgia.

Last week, it was reported that Clemson was on the verge of canceling the series which is scheduled for 2013 at Clemson and 2014 at Georgia. With the ACC moving to a nine-game conference schedule (likely in 2013), the Tigers need to cancel one non-conference game in both 2013 and 2014.

2012 MAC Football Schedules Announced

MACThe 2012 Mid-American Conference (MAC) football schedules were released today. The season begins on Thursday, August 30 with Akron, Central Michigan and UMass each hosting non-conference opponents.

Temple is no longer a part of the MAC as they have joined the Big East for the 2012 season. As a result, Bowling Green was moved back to the MAC East Division.

Report: Georgia Tech to cancel two future games against BYU

Georgia TechBYUGeorgia Tech is planning to cancel future football games against BYU in 2014 and 2017, the AJC reported earlier this week.

The Yellow Jackets are currently slated to host the Cougars on Oct. 11, 2014 and travel to Provo on Oct. 14, 2017. The two games are part of a four-game, home-and-home series that was scheduled in October 2010.

Cincinnati Bearcats announce Future Non-conference Football Opponents

Cincinnati BearcatsThe Cincinnati Bearcats have completed their non-conference schedule for 2013 and 2014 and have two games scheduled for 2015, the school announced on Tuesday.

Cincinnati is currently scheduled to open the 2013 season at home against Purdue (Aug. 31) and later host Northwestern State on a date to be announced.

For the 2012 season, the Big East welcomes Temple as a new member. The Owls, who have competed in the MAC since 2007, were members of the Big East from 1991 through 2004.

Conference USA, Mountain West now talking alliance instead of merger

MWC-C-USAConference USA and Mountain West are now talking about forming an alliance rather than merging, sources have told MercuryNews.com and CBSSports.com.

The two conferences announced in October that they planned to merge into one conference. Then last month they announced plans to dissolve both conferences and create a new one for legal reasons. Dissolving would allow them to nullify current television contracts and sign newer, more lucrative ones.

Slive and the 14 SEC athletic directors discussed the issue earlier this month in Nashville at the women’s basketball tournament and then the following week in New Orleans at the men’s tournament.

All home games, except for Michigan, will be televised by NBC at 3:30 p.m. ET. That includes games against Purdue (9/8), Stanford (10/12), BYU (10/20), Pittsburgh (11/3), and Wake Forest (11/17).
