The two schools were scheduled to play at West Lafayette, Indiana on September 17, 2016 and at Stillwater, Oklahoma on September 14, 2019.

No reason for the cancellation was stated, but it may be due to the expansion of the Big Ten and the contraction of the Big 12. The Big 12 will move to a 9-game conference schedule in 2012 after Colorado departs. And there is the possibility that the Big Ten will also play a 9-game conference schedule starting in 2015.

With the addition of one conference game, Big Ten and Big 12 schools will only be able to play three non-conference games per year.

The Colorado Buffaloes and Ohio State Buckeyes are working on a deal to play in 2011, DailyCamera.com has reported. The game would be played at Ohio Stadium, also known as “The Horseshoe.”

This would be a single game rather than a home-and-home series, meaning Ohio State would not play in Boulder. The payout that Colorado would receive is reported to be around $2 million.

Ohio State leads the overall series against Colorado 3-1. The two schools have played twice in Columbus, once in Boulder and once in the 1977 Orange Bowl.

A possible date for the game is October 15, 2011, which is currently an open date on Ohio State’s 2011 football schedule. The Buckeyes also have September 24 open, but would prefer to leave that week for rest after playing at Miami (FL) the week prior. The Buckeyes open the 2011 season with Akron and Toledo at home.

The deal with Ohio State is one of several options according to Colorado AD Mike Bohn:

“Ohio State is one of a dozen scenarios,” CU athletic director Mike Bohn said Saturday night. “We are working on numerous scenarios associated with our scheduling. They have a lot to do with opportunities that exist with us being in the Big 12 until 2012 or joining the Pac-10 in 2011.”

As Bohn stated, the game with Ohio State can only happen if the Buffaloes are able to negotiate their exit from the Big 12 to join the Pac-10 in 2011. It’s a common belief that Colorado will join their new conference next year, but it is still not official.

The Buffaloes’ open 2011 at Hawaii, return home to face California (which could become a Pac-10 game), face Colorado State in Denver and then host Fresno State.

The Kansas State Wildcats and Oregon Ducks home-and-home football series in 2011-12 has been canceled, RegisterGuard.com has reported.

Kansas State was scheduled to host Oregon on September 3, 2011 and travel to face the Ducks on September 1, 2012.

The paper also reported that Oregon has canceled their game at New Mexico on September 8, 2012. The Ducks open 2010 at home against the Lobos, which is now a single game rather than a home-and-home series.

No replacement opponents for Oregon have been named, but one option has been rumored. Oregon is exploring playing a neutral site game to open the 2011 season, and 2theadvocate.com reported that it could be against the LSU Tigers at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The two teams were scheduled to meet in Minneapolis on September 19, 2015 and in Austin on September 17, 2016.

A “contract impasse concerning video rights” was stated as the reason for the cancellation by Minnesota AD Joel Maturi. From GopherSports.com:

“We are extremely disappointed that the series with Texas will not take place,” said Minnesota Director of Athletics Joel Maturi. “Our institution, student-athletes and fans were very excited about having a nationally respected program like Texas on our schedule. However there are complex rights issues in play that are beyond our control. It’s unfortunate that a mutually acceptable resolution could not be found that would have allowed the games to be played.”

Replacement opponents for both schools were not announced, but it is likely that both will seek quality teams from BCS conferences.

The Big 12, Mountain West and WAC future football schedules have been updated. Updates reflect the recent conference changes by Boise State, Colorado, Nebraska and Utah.

Boise State is heading to the Mountain West in July of 2011. From 2011 forward, their WAC opponents have been removed from their schedules, and Boise State has been removed from all of the WAC future schedules. The Broncos won’t be added to any Mountain West schedules until the conference announces their new scheduling format.

Colorado will join the Pac-10 in 2012, but may be able to get in by the 2011 season. The Buffaloes have been removed from the future Big 12 football schedules. They will be added to the Pac-10 schedules once the conference decides on their new scheduling format, which could follow the SEC’s 12-team format.

Nebraska is also leaving the Big 12 and will join the Big Ten in July of 2011. The Cornhuskers have been removed from all of the 2011 and forward Big 12 football schedules. The Big Ten, which now has 12 teams, has yet to make an announcement on their future scheduling format.

Utah is leaving the Mountain West for the Pac-10 in 2011. The Utes have been removed from the Mountain West future schedules and will be added to the Pac-10 schedules once an announcement has been made.

Multiple news outlets, including ESPN and OrangeBloods.com, are reporting that the Texas Longhorns have decided to stay in the Big 12. Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M also agreed to stay in the league.

Texas had been contemplating a move to the Pac-10, with Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech following whatever path the Longhorns chose. But Texas has decided to stay put in the Big 12 in light of a new television deal that could earn the Longhorns $20 to $25 million per year.

The Texas A&M Aggies were rumored to join the SEC if the Longhorns bolted to the Pac-10. Their decision to stay in the Big 12 will net them about $20 million per year in TV revenue, as will the Oklahoma Sooners.

There has been no word yet on whether the Big 12 will try to add two additional schools to bring their number back to 12. Without 12 schools, the conference cannot stage and profit from a championship game.

Meanwhile, the Utah Utes may now be sought after to join the Pac-10, which currently stands at 11 schools after the recent addition of Colorado. It is believed that the Pac-10 wants to get to 12 schools in order to hold their own conference championship game.

Will the ten remaining Big 12 schools stay together? Several rumors today confirm that possibility, but others say Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will join the Pac-10.

Chip Brown of OrangeBloods.com, a Texas Longhorn site on the Rivals.com network, has been all over this story. Today he is reporting that Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe has constructed a TV deal that will keep the ten Big 12 schools together. Brown reports:

According to sources familiar with the deal, Texas stands to earn between $20 million and $25 million in television revenue, including money from its own network. The UT network figures to generate between $3 million and $5 million, according to sources.

According to sources, the deal will mean more money for Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma, who all stand to receive $20 million from the new deal. The other seven schools in the Big 12 would make between $14 million and $17 million, but would nearly double what they currently receive in TV revenue (roughly $7 million to $9 million).

How are they coming up with these figures all of a sudden? We don’t know, but Brown hints that answers will come later.

What we do know is that the Texas Longhorns are the key to all of these negotiations. They have the largest clout and their decision will affect what the other Big 12 schools decide.

For the latest updates from Chip Brown, check out his Twitter feed, which he is updating almost by the minute.

On the other side of the story, ESPN is reporting that a move to the Pac-10 by Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State is “imminent.”

The ESPN article also states that the Texas A&M Aggies will join the SEC rather than follow their Texas counterparts to the Pac-10. Yesterday, the Houston Chronicle reported that the Aggies’ future “appears to be the SEC.”

If the Big 12 -2 can be held together, it might put a stop to the “musical chairs” of conference realignment. The Pac-10, who added Colorado last week, would likely lure Utah as their 12th school.

If Texas decides that greener pastures lie in the Pac-10, a massive change in the college football landscape will result.

Over the last few weeks, there have been numerous stories and rumors of conference expansion in college football. All the talk has now become reality.

The Pac-10 announced today that the Colorado Buffaloes have agreed to join the conference, leaving the Big 12. The rest of the dominoes will likely begin to fall now and it could signal the end of the Big 12.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers also appear set to leave the Big 12. Numerous sites are reporting that the Cornhuskers will announce their intentions to join the Big Ten Conference on Friday or Saturday.

ESPN is reporting that Texas and Texas A&M will meet today to discuss their future and a possible move to the Pac-10. If they leave, Baylor and Texas Tech have expressed their desire to follow their Big 12 counterparts.

The move by Colorado puts the Pac-10 at eleven teams, one short of the twelve that are required to stage a conference championship game. The game would bring more money to the conference, but it appears that the Pac-10 may not be in favor of such a game.

Most rumors have the Pac-10 extending invites to Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, bringing the total numbers of teams to 16. That would create two eight-team divisions and a possible championship game. Or the conference could forgo the game and lobby for two automatic BCS bids, as some have suggested.

The Mountain West Conference has explored inviting Boise State from the WAC but this appears to be on hold for now. It appears the MWC may be playing and wait-and-see approach like most of the other conferences, including the mighty SEC.

Stay tuned as this could be a wild summer of conference expansion and reorganization. But keep in mind that most moves probably won’t take effect until the start of the 2012 season.

As for FBSchedules.com, we will continue to list teams as members of their current conference until the off-season preceding their move. Many of our team pages and schedules will have to be renamed because the site is organized by conference. If you notice any issues in the future, please contact us.

The future schedules and future non-conference opponents of each team will also change drastically. We will do our best to update as new information becomes available.

What do you think about the conference expansion and the possible demise of the Big 12? Do we really need super-conferences? How many teams are enough for one conference? Discuss these issues in the comments below.

The Wisconsin Badgers are seeking to schedule a home-and-home football series against the Nebraska Cornhuskers or the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, various sources are reporting. Currently, the Badgers need a home game in 2012 and a road game in 2015.

Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema tweeted this yesterday on his Twitter page:

“Also trying to lock up a home and home contest with Notre Dame or Nebraska for the future. (Home 2012 away 2015). Would be fun for WI fans.”

Bielema discussed the tweet on the “Lucas and Lepay Show” on WTSO (1070 AM) in Wisconsin. He said that Nebraska and Notre Dame appeared to have openings on their future schedules, among other things.

A blog post today on Madison.com indicates that nothing is close with scheduling Notre Dame or Nebraska.

The inaugural New Era Pinstripe Bowl is set for December 30, 2010 at the new Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York. The game will be televised by ESPN.

The Pinstripe Bowl will match the third-place Big East team against the sixth-place Big 12 team. The teams will be ranked and chosen after the BCS selections. The conferences are tied into the bowl for four years, as is the sponsor New Era.
