The Houston Cougars officially announced their 2012 football schedule yesterday, which includes games against Marshall, Rice, SMU and UCLA.
Houston opens the 2012 season at home on Sept. 1 against the Texas State Bobcats. Texas State will be playing their first season at the FBS level as a member of the WAC.
UH continues their schedule with two more non-conference games at home vs. Louisiana Tech on Sept. 8 followed by a trip to face UCLA on Sept. 15. Read Full Story »

Two Baylor football games have been moved to accommodate television broadcasts, the school announced this afternoon.

After months of discussions and legal wrangling, it appears “unlikely” that Conference USA and the Mountain West Conference will merge, sources told Brett McMurphy of CBSSports.com.
“There is not much talk about a formal merger of the conferences into one conference entity in the near term, but that is still a future consideration,” a source said.
The two will likely still form some kind of alliance in order to share resources. This will aid in the negotiation of television contracts and non-conference scheduling. Read Full Story »

The two conferences announced in October that they planned to merge into one conference. Then last month they announced plans to dissolve both conferences and create a new one for legal reasons. The LSU Tigers and the Tulane Green Wave are in discussions for a possible game at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in 2013, The Times Picayune has reported.
The game could be the season opener for both schools, although details are still being worked out. The two schools, separated by only about 80 miles, haven’t met since a 42-0 LSU win in 2009. The Tigers lead the overall series 69-22-7. Read Full Story »
Nebraska and Southern Miss begin a three-game series in 2012 in Lincoln. The 2013 game is scheduled for Hattiesburg, but could be moved to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, the Hattiesburg American has reported.
Southern Miss interim athletic director Jeff Hammond said that moving the game to New Orleans could give the Golden Eagles a payday between “$1.2 and $1.5 million after expenses.” Read Full Story »

Memphis would join the Big East in all sports. The Tigers have been a member of Conference USA since 1996.

The Memphis Tigers are in discussions to play a future football series against the Vanderbilt Commodores, The Commercial Appeal has reported. Memphis also has verbal agreements to play Kansas and Ole Miss.
Memphis Athletics Director R.C. Johnson said that the Tigers could play Vanderbilt as early as 2013 if one of their currently scheduled non-conference opponents cancels. Those opponents are Arkansas State, Duke, Louisville and Middle Tennessee. Read Full Story »
