The Old Dominion Monarchs have accepted an invitation to join Conference USA, the school announced this afternoon.
Old Dominion is the sixth program this year to announce a move to Conference USA. They join Charlotte, Florida International, Louisiana Tech, North Texas and UTSA, who each announced their decisions earlier this month.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers are in talks to join Conference USA, ASU Director of Athletics Charlie Cobb has confirmed.
Appalachian State has been a member of the Southern Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision since 1971. There they have won three national championships (2005-07) and won or shared the Southern Conference championship 11 times. Read Full Story »
Navy has eliminated another game from their future football schedules. This time it’s a 2014 game against the Rice Owls.
Rice was slated to host Navy at Rice Stadium in Houston on Sept. 13, 2014. The game would have been the 12th overall meeting in a series that is tied at six games each. Read Full Story »
Rice has postponed their 2013 football game at Wake Forest, MyFoxHouston.com has reported.
The Owls were scheduled to face the Demon Deacons at BB&T Field in Winston-Salem, NC on Sept. 7, 2013. According to Rice athletics director Rick Greenspan, a new date is “being negotiated.”

Conference USA announced today that they are adding five schools for the 2013 season. Joining C-USA are Charlotte, Florida International, Louisiana Tech, North Texas and UTSA.
Florida International and North Texas are moving from the Sun Belt while Louisiana Tech and UTSA are coming from the WAC. Charlotte, which begins their football program in 2013, will move up from the Football Championship Subdivision. Read Full Story »
The Georgia State Panthers will host Charlotte in 2015 and have had discussions for games against two FBS schools, the AJC has reported.
Georgia State will host the Charlotte 49ers at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on Sept. 3, 2015. The two schools are also discussing a game in 2016, but a contract has yet to be finalized. Read Full Story »

The Houston Cougars officially announced their 2012 football schedule yesterday, which includes games against Marshall, Rice, SMU and UCLA.
Houston opens the 2012 season at home on Sept. 1 against the Texas State Bobcats. Texas State will be playing their first season at the FBS level as a member of the WAC.

After months of discussions and legal wrangling, it appears “unlikely” that Conference USA and the Mountain West Conference will merge, sources told Brett McMurphy of CBSSports.com.
“There is not much talk about a formal merger of the conferences into one conference entity in the near term, but that is still a future consideration,” a source said.

The two conferences announced in October that they planned to merge into one conference. Then last month they announced plans to dissolve both conferences and create a new one for legal reasons.
