    Notre DameThe Notre Dame Fighting Irish will join the ACC in all sports except football, but the Irish will play five football games per year against ACC members.

    The latest news in conference realignment was announced this morning in a release from the ACC. Notre Dame will likely join in 2015 unless an earlier exit can be negotiated with the Big East.

  • Big East, Pittsburgh reach agreement for Panthers to join the ACC in 2013

    Big EastThe Big East Conference and Pittsburgh have reached an agreement that will allow the Panthers to leave for the ACC for the 2013 season.

    Pittsburgh’s membership in the Big East will end on July 1, 2013 and the Panthers will officially join the ACC on the same day. Pittsburgh will pay the Big East a one-time fee of $7.5 million for their early departure.

  • Fresno State, Hawaii & Nevada now official members of MWC

    Fresno State, Hawaii, and Nevada are now official members of the Mountain West Conference. Each school officially made the switch from the WAC on Sunday, July 1.

    With the addition of these three schools, the Mountain West will have ten football members for the 2012 season. In 2013, San Jose State and Utah State join the MWC while Boise State and San Diego State leave for the Big East. That will put the conference at ten football members in 2013 barring any new additions.

  • TCU and West Virginia officially join the Big 12 Conference today

    The TCU Horned Frogs and the West Virginia Mountaineers are official members of the Big 12 Conference today. The Big 12 remains at 10 members after losing Missouri and Texas A&M to the SEC.

    Since the Big 12 has only ten teams, the conference is not split into divisions. TCU and West Virginia will play every other member of the Big 12 on a yearly rotating basis.

    TCU opens the 2012 season on September 8 at home against Grambling State and their first Big 12 game is September 15 at Kansas.

  • Missouri and Texas A&M officially join the SEC today

    Today the Missouri Tigers and the Texas A&M Aggies have officially joined the SEC. The conference now has 14 members and has expanded for the first time since 1992.

    Missouri will compete in the East Division along with Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt. Their first game of the 2012 season is on September 1 at home against Southeastern Louisiana and their first SEC game is September 8 vs. Georgia.

  • Old Dominion Monarchs to join Conference USA in 2015

    Old Dominion joins C-USAThe Old Dominion Monarchs have accepted an invitation to join Conference USA, the school announced this afternoon.

    Old Dominion is the sixth program this year to announce a move to Conference USA. They join Charlotte, Florida International, Louisiana Tech, North Texas and UTSA, who each announced their decisions earlier this month.

    ODU will join C-USA in football in 2015 while all other sports will join for the 2013-14 season.

    Yesterday, the ACC and ESPN announced an extension to their exclusive media rights package through 2026-27. Reports indicate that the revenue for football and basketball will rise from $13 million to around $17 million per school.

  • San Jose State, Utah State to join Mountain West Conference in 2013

    MWCThe Mountain West announced today that San Jose State and Utah State have accepted invitations to join the conference on July 1, 2013.

    The addition of San Jose State and Utah State brings the total number of football members in the MWC to 10. The others are Air Force, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, UNLV and Wyoming.

  • Conference USA adds five schools for 2013

    C-USA 2013 AdditionsConference USA announced today that they are adding five schools for the 2013 season. Joining C-USA are Charlotte, Florida International, Louisiana Tech, North Texas and UTSA.

    Florida International and North Texas are moving from the Sun Belt while Louisiana Tech and UTSA are coming from the WAC. Charlotte, which begins their football program in 2013, will move up from the Football Championship Subdivision.
