They also unveiled a new logo (pictured at right). The number will be changed to 12 in the future.

Utah will definitely join the Pac-12 in 2011 as it was part of their deal. Colorado and the Big 12 are still working to make the transfer happen. On Monday, Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe said that it “makes the most sense” for the Buffaloes to join the Pac-12 in 2011.

The announcements came during the Pac-10 media days, which also included the launch of their redesigned website.

Still not announced are the future divisions of the conference. A report in June stated that the divisions could possibly look like this:

North: California, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, Washington, Washington State

South: Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, UCLA, USC, Utah

The Tennessee Volunteers have declined an offer to play the USC Trojans in the 2011 Chick-fil-A College Kickoff at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

Lane Kiffin, who left for USC after only one season as the head coach at Tennessee, lobbied hard for the game. But the Volunteers turned down the offer stating that they couldn’t make the game work with their schedule.

It’s no secret that there is some bad blood between the two schools. Kiffin’s hasty departure in January left the Vols without a head coach during prime recruiting season.

Tennessee’s 2011 football schedule is full, with non-conference games at home against North Texas (09/03), Cincinnati (09/10) and Middle Tennessee (11/05) and a road game at North Carolina (09/24). The North Texas game would have to be bought out (reports indicate $200,000) in order for Tennessee to play in the 2011 Kickoff game.

Moreover, a game against USC would make UT’s 2011 schedule possibly the nation’s toughest. In addition to the previously mentioned non-conference games, the Vols face a daunting SEC slate consisting of home games against Georgia, LSU, South Carolina and Vanderbilt and road games at Alabama, Arkansas, Florida and Kentucky.

For the Trojans, they would have had to move or buy out their September 3 game against Minnesota. But a chance to play in the 2011 Chick-fil-A College Kickoff would have provided Lane Kiffin and USC with a high-profile matchup. The Trojans were recently placed on probation and were hit with a two-year bowl ban and a loss of 30 scholarships over three years.

Tennessee and USC do have a verbal agreement for a home-and-home football series in 2021 and 2022. However, the contract has not been signed yet.

The Big 12, Mountain West and WAC future football schedules have been updated. Updates reflect the recent conference changes by Boise State, Colorado, Nebraska and Utah.

Boise State is heading to the Mountain West in July of 2011. From 2011 forward, their WAC opponents have been removed from their schedules, and Boise State has been removed from all of the WAC future schedules. The Broncos won’t be added to any Mountain West schedules until the conference announces their new scheduling format.

Colorado will join the Pac-10 in 2012, but may be able to get in by the 2011 season. The Buffaloes have been removed from the future Big 12 football schedules. They will be added to the Pac-10 schedules once the conference decides on their new scheduling format, which could follow the SEC’s 12-team format.

Nebraska is also leaving the Big 12 and will join the Big Ten in July of 2011. The Cornhuskers have been removed from all of the 2011 and forward Big 12 football schedules. The Big Ten, which now has 12 teams, has yet to make an announcement on their future scheduling format.

Utah is leaving the Mountain West for the Pac-10 in 2011. The Utes have been removed from the Mountain West future schedules and will be added to the Pac-10 schedules once an announcement has been made.

The two teams will meet in Honolulu on Thursday, September 2, 2010 (11:00 p.m. ET – ESPN – Buy Tickets).

Recent sanctions against USC had put the game in possible jeopardy. Since they are now on probation, the Trojans are prohibited from scheduling a 13th game at Hawaii, as the NCAA allows under the Hawaii Exemption.

From the Los Angeles Times:

“The Committee on Infractions has delayed the penalty that precludes the University of Southern California from playing a 13th game from the 2010 and 2011 seasons to the 2011 and 2012 seasons,” NCAA spokesperson Stacy Osburn said in an e-mail. “In making this decision, the committee noted a number of factors, including that the game has been scheduled for at least five years, will be televised, and many fans have already purchased travel packages to the game.”

USC is 6-0 all-time against Hawaii. In their last meeting in 2005, the Trojans defeated the Warriors 63-17 in Honolulu.

Multiple news outlets, including ESPN and OrangeBloods.com, are reporting that the Texas Longhorns have decided to stay in the Big 12. Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M also agreed to stay in the league.

Texas had been contemplating a move to the Pac-10, with Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech following whatever path the Longhorns chose. But Texas has decided to stay put in the Big 12 in light of a new television deal that could earn the Longhorns $20 to $25 million per year.

The Texas A&M Aggies were rumored to join the SEC if the Longhorns bolted to the Pac-10. Their decision to stay in the Big 12 will net them about $20 million per year in TV revenue, as will the Oklahoma Sooners.

There has been no word yet on whether the Big 12 will try to add two additional schools to bring their number back to 12. Without 12 schools, the conference cannot stage and profit from a championship game.

Meanwhile, the Utah Utes may now be sought after to join the Pac-10, which currently stands at 11 schools after the recent addition of Colorado. It is believed that the Pac-10 wants to get to 12 schools in order to hold their own conference championship game.

Will the ten remaining Big 12 schools stay together? Several rumors today confirm that possibility, but others say Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will join the Pac-10.

Chip Brown of OrangeBloods.com, a Texas Longhorn site on the Rivals.com network, has been all over this story. Today he is reporting that Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe has constructed a TV deal that will keep the ten Big 12 schools together. Brown reports:

According to sources familiar with the deal, Texas stands to earn between $20 million and $25 million in television revenue, including money from its own network. The UT network figures to generate between $3 million and $5 million, according to sources.

According to sources, the deal will mean more money for Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma, who all stand to receive $20 million from the new deal. The other seven schools in the Big 12 would make between $14 million and $17 million, but would nearly double what they currently receive in TV revenue (roughly $7 million to $9 million).

How are they coming up with these figures all of a sudden? We don’t know, but Brown hints that answers will come later.

What we do know is that the Texas Longhorns are the key to all of these negotiations. They have the largest clout and their decision will affect what the other Big 12 schools decide.

For the latest updates from Chip Brown, check out his Twitter feed, which he is updating almost by the minute.

On the other side of the story, ESPN is reporting that a move to the Pac-10 by Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State is “imminent.”

The ESPN article also states that the Texas A&M Aggies will join the SEC rather than follow their Texas counterparts to the Pac-10. Yesterday, the Houston Chronicle reported that the Aggies’ future “appears to be the SEC.”

If the Big 12 -2 can be held together, it might put a stop to the “musical chairs” of conference realignment. The Pac-10, who added Colorado last week, would likely lure Utah as their 12th school.

If Texas decides that greener pastures lie in the Pac-10, a massive change in the college football landscape will result.

Over the last few weeks, there have been numerous stories and rumors of conference expansion in college football. All the talk has now become reality.

The Pac-10 announced today that the Colorado Buffaloes have agreed to join the conference, leaving the Big 12. The rest of the dominoes will likely begin to fall now and it could signal the end of the Big 12.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers also appear set to leave the Big 12. Numerous sites are reporting that the Cornhuskers will announce their intentions to join the Big Ten Conference on Friday or Saturday.

ESPN is reporting that Texas and Texas A&M will meet today to discuss their future and a possible move to the Pac-10. If they leave, Baylor and Texas Tech have expressed their desire to follow their Big 12 counterparts.

The move by Colorado puts the Pac-10 at eleven teams, one short of the twelve that are required to stage a conference championship game. The game would bring more money to the conference, but it appears that the Pac-10 may not be in favor of such a game.

Most rumors have the Pac-10 extending invites to Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, bringing the total numbers of teams to 16. That would create two eight-team divisions and a possible championship game. Or the conference could forgo the game and lobby for two automatic BCS bids, as some have suggested.

The Mountain West Conference has explored inviting Boise State from the WAC but this appears to be on hold for now. It appears the MWC may be playing and wait-and-see approach like most of the other conferences, including the mighty SEC.

Stay tuned as this could be a wild summer of conference expansion and reorganization. But keep in mind that most moves probably won’t take effect until the start of the 2012 season.

As for FBSchedules.com, we will continue to list teams as members of their current conference until the off-season preceding their move. Many of our team pages and schedules will have to be renamed because the site is organized by conference. If you notice any issues in the future, please contact us.

The future schedules and future non-conference opponents of each team will also change drastically. We will do our best to update as new information becomes available.

What do you think about the conference expansion and the possible demise of the Big 12? Do we really need super-conferences? How many teams are enough for one conference? Discuss these issues in the comments below.

The California Golden Bears have announced that they will play their 2011 home football games at AT&T Park in San Francisco while Memorial Stadium is renovated.

AT&T Park, which opened in 2000, is home to the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball. The stadium also hosts the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl (formerly the Emerald Bowl).

Cal’s Memorial Stadium in Berkeley opened in 1923 and seats 71,799. Preliminary construction on the stadium will begin in June.

From Wikipedia:

On January 19, 2010 the UC Board of Regents approved the retrofit and renovation of California Memorial Stadium. The $321 million project will begin in June 2010 and is expected to be completed in time for the 2012 season. The project will renovate the seismically vulnerable west side of the stadium and add amenities such as club levels, restrooms, and a new press box. Renovation of the east side of the stadium will be done at a later time in phase III.

Cal’s 2011 football schedule is not complete yet. But the Bears will face Pac-10 foes Arizona, Oregon State, USC and Washington State at AT&T Park. Two non-conference games should be added at a later date.
