The Memphis Tigers are in discussions to play a future football series against the Vanderbilt Commodores, The Commercial Appeal has reported. Memphis also has verbal agreements to play Kansas and Ole Miss.

Memphis Athletics Director R.C. Johnson said that the Tigers could play Vanderbilt as early as 2013 if one of their currently scheduled non-conference opponents cancels. Those opponents are Arkansas State, Duke, Louisville and Middle Tennessee.

The Tigers and Commodores haven’t met since a 1989 contest in Memphis. Vandy leads the overall series 7-5.

The Commercial Appeal also reported that Memphis has verbal agreements to play two games each against the Kansas Jayhawks and the Ole Miss Rebels. UM would face Kansas in 2015 and 2016 and Ole Miss possibly in 2016 and 2017.

Memphis’ future schedules are now littered with big time BCS programs. In 2014, Memphis is slated to travel to Miami (FL) and host Louisville. In 2015, the Tigers will host Miami (FL) and Missouri, travel to Louisville and face Kansas either home or away.

Then in 2016, Memphis returns the game at Missouri, hosts Louisville and then if the contracts are signed could face Kansas and Ole Miss.

The Tigers would then face Ole Miss again in 2017 and will host in-state foe Tennessee.

Last week, Memphis announced their 2012 football schedule. The Tigers open the season on Sept. 1 at home against the UT Martin Skyhawks.

The Missouri Tigers have added the UCF Knights to their 2012 football schedule, UCF announced this afternoon.

Missouri will travel to face UCF at Bright House Networks Stadium in Orlando on Sept. 29, 2012. The game will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.

UCF fills a hole in Missouri’s schedule created when the Tigers left the Big 12 to join the SEC. There is no word yet whether UCF will return the game to Columbia in a future season.

Missouri now has three open dates remaining on their 2012 football schedule: Sept. 1 (season opener), Oct. 20 and Nov. 17. One of those dates will be Missouri’s off week, probably Oct. 20.

The Tigers were previously slated to host Southern Illinois on Sept. 8, but their SEC opener vs. Georgia now occupies that date. The game remains on SIU’s 2012 schedule, but could be canceled because they have no open dates that match Missouri.

Missouri’s other non-conference game was supposed to be at Miami (OH). Interestingly, the RedHawks website now lists their 4th and final non-conference game as TBA, meaning it may have been canceled already.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are set to face the LSU Tigers in the 2012 Allstate BCS National Championship Game tonight at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The game will be televised by ESPN and ESPN3 at 8:30 p.m. ET.

LSU (13-0, 8-0 SEC) is the number one ranked team in the country in the BCS Rankings, AP Poll and ESPN/USA Today Poll. Alabama (11-1, 7-1 SEC) is ranked second in all three polls and held off Oklahoma State for the spot in the title game.

The two schools met in Tuscaloosa earlier this season in what many people dubbed the “game of the century.” LSU won that game 9-6 in overtime. The defensive struggle saw the two schools combine for five field goals and no touchdowns.

The Tigers are no stranger to winning titles a mere 80 miles from campus. LSU has won each of their past three national championships at the Superdome in New Orleans. Under Les Miles, the Bayou Bengals beat Ohio State 38-24 in the 2008 Allstate BCS National Championship Game to claim the 2007 title. In 2003, Nick Saban led LSU to a 21-14 win over Oklahoma in the Nokia Sugar Bowl to win the 2003 national title. Finally, the Tigers defeated Clemson 7-0 in the 1959 Sugar Bowl to win the 1958 national championship.

Nick Saban, who owns a 54-12 record at Alabama, has a second national title to boast. He led the Crimson Tide to a 37-21 win over Texas to win the 2010 Citi BCS National Championship Game at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

If LSU wins the game, the Tigers will be unanimous BCS and AP national champions. If Alabama upsets LSU, their is a possibility of a split national championship. The Tide would claim the BCS title, but the Tigers could retain more first place votes to win the AP national title.

The 2012 schedule will feature two new additions to the schedule, Missouri and Texas A&M. Both schools will leave the Big 12 and officially join the SEC on July 1, 2012.

Last week, Chris Low of ESPN released a few tibits concerning the 2012 SEC schedule. Both of the new schools, Missouri and Texas A&M, will open SEC play at home on Sept. 8 with some high profile opponents. Missouri will host Georgia while Texas A&M will host Florida.

Another 2012 schedule change may be the location of the Arkansas-Texas A&M game. The two schools have been playing their non-conference matchup at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. But A&M moving to the SEC and financial issues may return the game to their respective campuses.

The 2012 SEC football schedule will be released at 10:00 a.m. ET on SECDigitalNetwork.com. FBSchedules.com will update our schedules at that time.

As reported earlier today by ESPN, Texas A&M’s first SEC game will be the following week at Kyle Field in College Station against the Florida Gators (Sept. 8).

The Aggies are currently slated to face SMU at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas on Sept. 15. That date could change depending on the new SEC schedule.
