Why is it being played in J’ville now? Hard to get big names into Boise, congrats FSU.

Just found the announcement regarding the move, and I’ve added it to the copy. Not a lot of detail provided, but there’s sort of an answer.

Move to JAX is part of FSU plan to go TO their fan base. Games in Orlando, Tampa, Atlanta, and now JAX. These are the cities FSU Grads move to. Plus FSU can take paycheck from these cities and make more than for home game. ATL paying them 5 million for 2017 vs Bama.

Great point with the fan base moving & smart move on FSU part to accommodate that. Bama does the same thing with neutral site games, I assumed FSU would get more money playing in J’ville just wasn’t sure why they changed it.

Great! I’m going to that game in 2019!!! It’ll be tough for Boise State since that will probably be the first game after Rypien graduates!

Hope FSU doesn’t end up cancelling the return to Boise in 2020

Great to see that Boise State & Marshall have scheduled a home and home series against each other. Those games should be a lot fun to watch.

Boise State did a great job a few years ago getting the likes of Power 5 teams Florida State, Oklahoma State and Michigan State to agree to home & home series. Since then the it has been slim pickings. They are saddled with 2 dreadful southern rejects in Troy (losers to even Idaho) and Louisiana /Lafayette @ home along with AAC bottom dweller UConn and ACC weakling Virginia. In addition UTEP and Rice were the latest addition to their less than stellar non league schedule in future years. They still have surprising Washington State on the schedule for the next 2 seasons and traditional PAC 12 doormat Oregon State next year.

It is a challenge to get teams to come to Boise to play in such a tiny stadium. Marshall does represent an improvement over Idaho State. Let us hope that with their weak Mountain West schedule that no more FCS teams are slated for the future.

I agree. I love that we play BYU annually, but we need to get at least two more Power Five schools on the schedule each year.

Doubt you’ll reply or even see this as it’s like 8 months past when you posted lol.
Only way Boise State is going to get two power 5 teams is if they decide to do more 1 and done games. Boise State has lost a little bit of it’s lust in terms of National perception but a couple good years could easily bring that back. It may be a scenario where they schedule a lot of home and homes with Washington State and Oregon State. I’d also look at going for home and homes with Colorado and Utah.

For me the key I would like to see is a lot of games against either the Big 12 or PAC-12 since those are the two conferences that one day will send Boise State an invite to their conference.

Great to see these two schedule each other. Should be some very good games.

If Michigan or Alabama scheduled Rice and UTEP some people would lose their ever-loving minds.

Considering they have played games against Clemson, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Michigan, or West Virginia recently, that’s a pretty ignorant thing to even claim and proves that many college football fans are simply idiots.

Joe, you are clearly a hypocrit. Alabama DOES schedule these type of schools, and rarely plays TRUE road games against anyone OOC. Yes they have big match-ups every now and again, but probably not as many as Boise does OOC, and definitely not as many as they do which requires 1000 mi. or more of travel (and statistically, the further a team travels, the lower their win percentage so it does make a difference).

Don’t bring a “holier then though” attitude in like you’re in touch when you are clearly just as aloof with your starting comment. Hank made an idiotic comment, but then so did you, so everything is business as usual in the internet world for sports fans.

SDSU still doesn’t have 12 games on their 2015 schedule? What is going on there….

San Diego State is the last FBS program still working to complete their 2015 schedule. Why are the Aztecs having such an issue? Multiple FCS programs would love a guarantee game and are open to playing two or three FBS programs in a season.

Or is San Diego State having funding issues and cannot afford to pay for a guarantee game?

Why isn’t the final week: Fres St @ SJSU, CSU@ Wyo, AF @ UNM, Nev @ SDSU, BSU@ UNLV. They should have BSU and Nevada play every year because that’s a longtime rivalry, probably bigger for Nevada than UNLV.

The MWC has 22 games scheduled against Power 5 teams in 2015. In 2013 they were 1-20; last year they picked up 3 wins beating Colorado, Wake Forest and Washington State. Can they win 5 this season-or would that be asking too much?

      March 2, 2015 at 6:14 pm

I agree it should be rivalries, but the pairings should be:
      Colorado St.-Wyoming
      Air Force-New Mexico
      Utah St.-Boise St.
      Fresno St.-San Jose St.
      Hawaii-San Diego St.

It also keeps it in division.

It probably would be that but USU and Hawaii are playing non conference games that weekend, so it messes things up.

      • @dbrunstheworld
        March 3, 2015 at 10:28 am

The MWC let BYU get USU for the final week 2015 and 2016 in exchange for BYU letting USU out of a 2 for 1 deal. No hassle for the MWC, Hawaii appears to have been granted the right to schedule non-conference the closing week.

Rivalries are good, AF vs CSU is Good but the big Rivalries with AF are non conference, Navy & Army. As a person setting in the stadium, a Sat game is my biggest desire & need. Friday & Thursday games are 90% of time unable to attend. I know TV & MWConf wants the money but empty stands are not good. I can’t even give away my Thur games.

I like SJSU’s schedule. We have rivals Fresno State, San Diego State at home, plus BYU and Boise State. These will really help attendance.

But this has problems. SJSU should host SDSU one year, Fresno State the next year to help build consistency in attendance and interest. Also Fresno State and SJSU should be playing the last week or the next to last week every year. Same for Colorado State-Wyoming.

Building rivalries is key. So they should set up last weekend rivalries. They also should allow schools to have one permanent cross rival. Nevada-Boise State is an obvious one.

It would have been better is the MWC divided by “old” and “new” (WAC), as that would have preserved rivalries.

West: Hawaii, Fresno St, San Jose St, Nevada, Utah St, Boise St
Mountain: San Diego St, UNLV, New Mexico, Colorado St, Wyoming, Air Force

You’d probably want SDSU-Hawaii (reduce travel) and UNLV-Nevada as built in cross rivals in that setup.

Whatever. The MWC clearly has not thought much about building rivalries. But I think they are critical to survival at the G5 level, to built interest without a chance at the Playoffs.

San Jose State is going to struggle this year on run defense again..our defensive lineman are once again in the 260-270 range and that ain’t going to get it done. Just hope there is enough balance on offense to keep the defense off the field.

With a very mediocre Fresno St. team traveling to Boise to get their butts kicked for the 2nd time this season, this game has all of the attractiveness of 2 day old bread.

      Does anyone out there care?

        December 1, 2014 at 4:58 pm

The record of Boise State is a lot better than Fresno but look at the season, Boise does not test there abilities against big schools. That’s the big thing with Fresno they play schools like USC, Nebraska. So if Fresno plays good the whole game I believe they can win but this team is lazy and tends to let it go and loose. Also said Boise has the confidence of a better record and with a win over Fresno this year. Just have to wait and see.

We care more about the game then your comment. If you didn’t care you wouldn’t have took the time to be here. Unless you secretly do care but don’t want to admit it.

If you are a BSU Fan you should care. This game shows how far this team has come this year and the fans should show up to show their support and appreciation for all of the hard work that the players and coaches have put in.

Boise State is totally motivated. It will be a great

I love Boise State football, but Fresno will show up with no intention of not getting a win on the blue. Lets hope the J-Train has the steam to play a really physical game all four quarters.
