Great series! I see ODU taking one of those.
Me too! This will actually be a really good series for both of them.
This is great news for the local economy in northeastern NC. Thumbs up to ECU for making this happen.
Whenever the next conference shuffling happens, ECU should advocate for ODU to get brought up to the American. If they hadn’t dropped football years ago, ODU probably would have already been in the American. Norfolk-Richmond is a huge media market.
Go UNC, this is a respectable ooc line up for 2017 with 2 p5 (including ND) and 2 g5 opponents. This is how the entire ACC and SEC should format their ooc schedules if they’re going to remain at a 8 conference game scheduling system. There should also be a 5 road game minimum for all conferences ( I say all conferences but we all know I’m referring to p5 primarily ). It’s understandable you want to keep your pockets fat and what ever other excuse you tell yourselves to avoid home and home series ( this doesn’t apply to all p5 teams); however, football fans don’t want to see ooc line ups littered with cup cake buyout wins for these major teams (unless they’re die hard fans of said team and honestly just want to see their team deliver a good ole fashion butt kicking for a good chunk of the season) with 2 g5 bottom dwellers and 1 FCS opponent. Neutral site games are generally exciting and major cash crops for the schools involved but, as I stated in previous comments, they should be accompanied with a home and home series. Shoot if you do that you can trash my idea of 5 road game minimum if you have a ooc line up that looks like:
vs. South Dakota
vs. Georgia Tech
or something of the sort.
UNC and Ga Tech are in the same conference. DAMN you can’t count them as OOC.
I’ll agree… UNC’s 2017 OOC schedule looks pretty nice (and their 2016 schedule is off to a good start). If they wanted to play one of the g5 games against one of the higher-tier teams (AAC, MWC… even one of the better CUSA teams) I wouldn’t complain, but the fact that they’re up for doing a home/home with a new FBS team is kind of nice.
I’m still weirded out by their OOC series against a conference team (Wake Forest) coming up… especially considering it’s not like WF is a terribly compelling match-up despite being a regional rival… I just feel like surely there are other games that can be played that would showcase an ACC team vs another conference.
Of course, I’m still looking at MORE p5 games as my ideal. As a Longhorn fan, I love the current format with 1 marquee p5 team, 1 other p5 team, and 1 g5 team, plus 9 conference games. It makes for a rough slate when you’re trying to rebuild, but the matchups are just so much more exciting as a result. Still, 10 p5 games is a good start for most teams (and one that lots in the 8-conference-game format avoid).
What about something like this. Alabama A&M…@Usc…Texas State…Houston…I think that would be a solid Non Confrence schedule…Two games you should handle your buissness, a tough scrappy g5 program, an elite Killer.
