After news came that BYU was planning to become an independent in football and join the WAC for all other sports, the Mountain West made a move by inviting WAC members Fresno State and Nevada to join in 2011.
Fresno State will have to pay a $5 million buyout to the WAC for leaving, under the terms reached after Boise State planned to leave.

The BYU Cougars may leave the Mountain West conference to become an independent in football, various sources have reported. BYU would join the WAC in all other sports.
Currently, the only independent schools in football are Army, Navy and Notre Dame.

The Buffalo Bulls will travel to face the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville in 2011, Buffalo has announced. The Bulls will travel to face the Volunteers at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville on October 1, 2011.
Earlier today, news broke that Tennessee was backing out of a 2011-12 home-and-home football series with North Carolina. As a result, the Volunteers have scheduled Buffalo for 2011. This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.

A 2011-12 home-and-home football series between the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Tennessee Volunteers is likely to be canceled, ESPN.com has reported.
The two schools were to play at Chapel Hill on September 24, 2011 and at Knoxville on September 8, 2012.

The Colorado Buffaloes and Ohio State Buckeyes are working on a deal to play in 2011, DailyCamera.com has reported. The game would be played at Ohio Stadium, also known as “The Horseshoe.”
This would be a single game rather than a home-and-home series, meaning Ohio State would not play in Boulder. The payout that Colorado would receive is reported to be around $2 million.

The Michigan State Spartans and the UCF Golden Knights have each added the Jacksonville State Gamecocks to their 2014 football schedule, JSU has announced.
Michigan State will host Jacksonville State at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing on August 30, 2014. It will be the season opener and the first meeting ever between the two schools.

The Miami (FL) Hurricanes have scheduled a game in 2015 with the Cincinnati Bearcats. They have also confirmed the dates for their 2014-15 home-and-home series with the Memphis Tigers (Source – ht Andrew).
Miami will host Cincinnati at Sun Life Stadium on October 3, 2015. It will be the 12th meeting between the two schools. The Hurricanes lead the series 10-1 and have won 10 straight since losing the first meeting in 1947.

Rutgers will host Temple at Rutgers Stadium in Piscataway, NJ in 2015 and 2017. Rutgers will travel to face Temple at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia in 2016 and 2018. Exact dates of the games were not announced.

Several sources are reporting a possible matchup between the LSU Tigers and the Oregon Ducks at Cowboys Stadium to open the 2011 season. 2theadvocate.com reported on the possibility of this game last month.
Both LSU and Oregon have open dates on September 3, 2011. The Ducks recently canceled a home-and-home series with Kansas State which opened the door for this opportunity.

The first ever Big Ten Football Championship Game will be played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana in December 2011, the conference announced on Thursday.
The addition of the Nebraska Cornhuskers to the Big Ten in 2011 gives the conference 12 teams, which is the number required by the NCAA to hold a championship game.

The Big Ten will likely adopt a 9-game conference football schedule and stage a conference championship game, commissioner Jim Delaney said at the Big Ten media days.
Delaney said the nine-game conference schedule would not begin until at least 2013. On the other hand, the Big Ten Championship game should begin in December 2011. A site for the game has yet to be determined.

ESPN has announced the first three college football games that will be broadcast in 3D. ESPN 3D is a new channel and is currently available on DirecTV, Comcast and AT&T.
In order to view the games in 3D, you will need ESPN 3D (check with your provider), a 3D enabled television and 3D glasses. Most 3D TV’s currently being sold are bundled with one or two pairs of glasses.

The Pac-10 has announced that they will be named the Pac-12 once Colorado and Utah join the conference. They also unveiled a new logo (pictured at right). The number will be changed to 12 in the future.
Utah will definitely join the Pac-12 in 2011 as it was part of their deal. Colorado and the Big 12 are still working to make the transfer happen.

EverBank has announced that they have acquired naming rights for Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. The new name of the stadium is Everbank Field.
The stadium, located next to the St. John’s River in downtown Jacksonville, is home to the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars. The stadium also hosts the annual Georgia-Florida game. A deal for that game extends through 2016.
